View Full Version : Iffy bloods and fastest appointment ever

Saw the doc about an 'iffy' blood test today. She didn't say much about the raised potassium level and she was very reassuring about most of the results.
Then she came to the crunch - raised CA125. Possible cancer marker. (I'd researched - I knew that before I went in) She did say that it might be raised because of AI stuff: it may be raised because of plaq, paracetamol and the odd glass of alcohol. However - they have to rule cancer out, so she said I'd had an urgent referral to the local hospital and should hear within 10 days.

I heard this afternoon. Appointments secretary phoned me at work and I'm to see someone tomorrow aftrenoon.

At least they're not hanging around. I know I won't know anything tomorrow but i guess I'll know when I'll get a scan and probably a camera.

Take care - Scottie

Hi Scottie

So sorry you have this extra worry to deal with.
Hoping and praying the meds have distorted things but I know you have had GI problems and of course you must be really concerned.
So glad they are dealing with you swiftly though it must be an awful shock. The quicker they find out the better the prognosis but of course you know that.

What time is your appointment tomorrow? I am a great believer in the power of energy (even knowing someone else is concentrating on you at a particular time can help)
I will set my mobile phone alarm at the time and send you loads of positive vibes. Will do it for at least an hour after the time cos I know these appointment times can drag on!

Much love and strength to you
Luv n stuff

(((((((Scottie)))))))))) We will be thinking of you, good luck with the test and hopefully everything is going to be ok.

I know a few things can raise it, even Endometriosis - I knew two ladies with that who had a highish level of CA125. So fingers crossed for you - let us know how you get along.

love
Lily

Aw thanks all style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

I'm actually feeling amazingly positive. I read up about CA125 last week because the Drs receptionist had mentioned it. I know it can be raised by a number of things.

The worst was not being able to talk it over with anyone. My daughter got married on Saturday. We had a really lovely day and I had no intention of spoiling it for anyone including my husband by raising doubts and fears (and of course, I hadn't seen the doc then anyway)

My appointments at 3.30 p.m. tomorrow (5th)
I'm pretty sure it will be a chat and a 'where do we go from here' sort of appointment. Not expecting a dx.

I'll be busy beforehand anyway as I'll be at work. Second last day of term. Building's being decorated so there'll probably be a bit of mayhem which will occupy my mind nicely.

Take care - Scottie

Hello style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Hospital doctor very reassuring. CA125 certainly not definitive - more a useful tool to assess treatment if a cancer has been detected. Not much use diagnostically he said. Can certainly be caused by other things.

He's arranged a colonoscopy for later this month, just to be on the safe side.

I'm actually not worrying about it. Truthfully. Got word tonight that my elderly MIL is at death's door and will not be around for much longer. That's focussed my mind elsewhere totally.

My daughter got married last Saturday and i'm just deperately hoping that MIL hangs on in there until daughter comes back from her honeymoon as I don't want to break into it with bad news. A bit of a selfish way to think I guess.

Thanks for the good vibes. Take care - Scottie
