My doctor just adjusted my painkillers to a different kind I went from vicodin to Percocet and its a fairly high dose I'm taking my other medications as I am directed. I am still waking up every two hours in pain even with a sleeping pill...I'm wondering if this should also be adjusted since i've been on it for awhile and i'm building resistency towards...
I think this may be fibro flare and not Inflammatory arthritis flare like i first suspected, because usually with fibro i don't get to my stage four sleep or (rem sleep).
Does this happen to anyone else...would like to here what you do to get to sleep...
I usually end up having to take a few naps during the day because I'm so exhausted from being up in the middle of the night so frequently...
Thanks in advance for any help... style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

One thing that will help with nighttime sleep in short order is to begin tapering off your daytime sleep. It can be absolutely awful to try to stay awake during the day at first, but it is the first step toward reregulating your body clock for sleep at night.
Some medicines, including pain medicines, can interfere with sleep so an evaluation of that by your pharmacist/chemist would be a good thing to have done. Maybe a look at the list would help find an interaction or two although not all interactions are known, particularly when there are multiple medicines to take into account.
If pain is keeping you awake, it would seem that a change of some kind is in order. A pain specialist doctor would be the best one to consult. They aren't just for people at death's door. They are for people with chronic symptoms such as you describe. You could ask for a referral at your next visit.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi andi, I have fibro too, along with the other stuff, so I know what you mean. There are times, if you are in a very severe lupus flare, that the pain can wake you up, but it sounds like you need to have your meds adjusted. I do take a nap every day, from 1-3 o' clock. I don't really sleep, but I lay there, perfictly still, eyes closed, dark room. And yes, it is because I am tires. I do so much drinking of water,
cuz of sjrogrens, that I get up to go to the potty a couple of times a night. So, there may be something that is causing you to wake up. On the other hand, I have been taking Restoril for 15 yrs, and my dr, said that I
would be a basket case if he were to try to change me now, so he has me taking my elavil at nite with it, and it has helped. Cuz, believe me, as you already know, without that 4th stage sleep, you're a gonner!!!!!!
Write back if there is anything else that I can do.
Be well and keep posting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

thanks guyz i have an appointment on the 23rd of april with my Rheumy, hopefully she will be able to shed some light on this, usually i can just take a neurotin and that calms me down enough to help me sleep it usually get the other pills to work so to speak...
I'm not sure what it is really maybe it was the change in medications or maybe i just need something for breakthrough pain.
is there an anti inflmatory med without sulfa in it? if you know let me know...

Hi Andi,
Which anti-inflammatory are you referring to with sulfa in it? Perhaps you mean Celebrex and if so its got sulfate in it, which I think is different in chemical structure? dont quote me on that style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
I take Naprosyn with no problems, no sulfa or sulfate?

my doctors in the past wouldn't perscribe any anitinflammatories i'm not sure why i thought it was because of the sulfa allergy but now maybe i'm thinking it has to do with my stomach issues...who knows i'll have to ask because they aren't so forth coming with information these days.
