Hello
I have recently had a gastroscopy which had to be abandoned before they got beyond my gullett The doc said it was because I was "too sore" and that she was afraid of "hurting me". I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this which may be caused by internal changes due to the Lupus or Sjorgens.

Hope your having a good day today.

Hi, Caper.
I'm sorry you had this problem. I haven't had the problem with getting past the throat, but did have a problem with getting into and/or past the gastric outlet where the stomach empties. Not sure why.

I don't know if it's a common problem or not, but it's much better for your doc to err on the side of caution rather than do something that might cause damage, even serious damage.

Maybe there is another test that can be done to evaluate your insides. I hope so, anyway!

I wish you well!

I saw on the Today Show a new "Camera Pill" that you just swallow and it does all the work. It's supposedly "out there" already but I'm guessing not all docs have it yet, and being new its probably expensive. Worth asking about though.

Good luck

Have you ever had a barium swallow. They follow the progress of the barium thru the digestive track with cameras but I think the camer is outside. I have one scheduled. It may be a less invasive process but I doubt if the pics would be as precise. It might be a place to start.

Hugs.

Thank you all for your replies. Julie, they have suggested a barium swallow, but I have had 2 CT scans in the last year & am concerned about the amount of radiation this will be giving me. Also I do wonder if this problem I have is due to the autoimmune illness and therefore could be safely left to see how it devlops without further investigation. I would be interested to know how you get on Julie, is it scheduled soon? I hope it goes well for you

my dr wasnt able to complete the scope on me either. i think the new camera pills are used more for the stomach than the esophagus, but i could be wrong. i wonder how big that camera is style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hairstand.gif
