Make the face rash away?

Hi
Newly diagnosed (still not diagnosed for sure with Lupus, but all bloodwork, and symptoms are suggestive). I have been on Plaquenil (generic) for almost 3 weeks (200/mg twice a day)

I have had a face rash (not the typical butterfly). I thought the face rash was getting better, woke up this morning and I have a new spot on the left side of my face (rash was mostly on right side).

I have put in a call to the derma (rhuemy won't prescribe for the face) to maybe call something in (I have tried several Rx cortisone), while I wait for the call back....

Any suggestions how to help the face rash clear up?

My Rheumy told me, "I'm a Rheumatologist, not a dermatologist, skin is not my speciality."
And he was right, and only being honest. So I got myself a Dermy, and as I have
found out, next to my Rheumy, my Dermy is my best friend. He probably will not
call anything in for you though, how can he when he has not even seen the skin?
That would not be very ethical. But, do get a good Dermy, and I wish you luck.

I'm sorry, I didn't give you all the facts earlier. It was actually my Derma who questioned the rash (hand rash initially) and did the first round of skin biopsies and bloodwork to test for Lupus. So the Derma has seen the face rash on several visits. (I LOVE MY DERMA!!) He has already Rx 2 different creams for it and none of them are helping.

I was just hoping someone might have some kind of old wive's tale or something that has worked for different people. I have tried several OTC "calming" lotions as well.

I had the butterfly really bad. I took prednisone ALOT and it always made my rash go away and then I went on plaquinil and within 6 months I was doing really good and it really helped my face rash. My dermy prescibed everything under the sun and nothing worked except the pred and then when plaqunil kicked in.

Maybe you could get him to rx a low maintenence dose until the other drug has time to work.

Good Luck and by the way...I got my diagnosis through my skin biopsy of the rash on my face.

Once that Plaquenil has had more time to work the rash should clear up a lot. It did take several months for me though. If its really really bad then as suggested maybe they will give you some Pred until the Plaq kicks in.
