HI have noticed over the last week or so that my legs are extremely week. I have to all most pull myself up out of a sitting positon. This morning I bent down to get something out of the bottom cabinet and could not make my legs get me up they were just so weak. I had to crawl to the chair to get up. Along with this I seem to be having alot of problems with constipation.

I am wondering could this be a new development with the CNS lupus or could it be caused by the prednisone/cytoxan.

Any of you having or have had similar problems???

Thanks

Hi Lisade,
Definitely report this symptom to your doctor. Like you I have CNS and the same thing happens to me. The later in the day the worse it is. The neuro will need to do a good workup to see whether it is your nerves or muscles causing the problem.

Take care,

Hi Lisade.

Best to get checked out by your doc as the others have suggested, ring him if you can and he will advise you what to do.

It could be something revving, but then again long term steroids can cause muscle weakness too so its hard to tell.

Thanks for the advice. I have an appointment Tuesday morning before my next cytoxan dose and I will talk to him about it. If it does seem to be getting worse I will call him.

Hi Lisade

There is a difference between general fatigue, muscles that fatigue with exertion/fatigue dissipates with rest, and weakness. I am not real familiar with CNS lupus but it makes sense to me that there would be some sort of neuromuscular connection. You could ask to have EMGs run to see if there is a neuromuscular connection. There are other problems that could cause all of the above, as well.

I think at this point most of us DO have a problem getting up from a squatting position . I agree with the other posters, ask your doc about it.

Let us know what you find out.

Hugs.

Hi Lisade,

I too have alot of muscle weakness. At the beginning of Feb I all of the sudden went extremely weak. I thought I would just rest, but being that I work there was no resting. So I made an appointment to a rhuematologist for March 29th and by the time it got there the weakness had gotten better. All I did was take a 4 day weekend and did absolutely nothing. Don't know if that was what helped or not but my weakness is pretty much gone. As for squatting and getting up off the floor No Way. I am not sure if the meds can cause this but I am not on any medication. Do talk to your doctor about it.

Thanks,
Barbie
