Just wondering what nasal sores look like with lupus. I awoke to find this new symptom. Thanks.

Hi Sampy 123,

My nasal sores are like ulcers or open wounds. I get them all the time. My doc rx'd mupirocin (generic name) because I was using vasaline with aloe and I'm with the understanding that's not good to use because it can get into your lungs. I know the ulcers can be very painful and annoying. Maybe you can call your doc and tell them whats going on and they can call in an rx for you.

Thanks for the response. Mine are simply raised white pimples, not open sores. I'm relieved, thanks.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi, and welcome to this site. I have not had any in my nose, but have had them in my mouth.
and they look like a bright red bump, then a white spot and it opens up.
You need to get to a dermatologist, they can help with these, it's their specialities.

Be well and keep posting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

Sampy,
Halfpint is the log on name for one of the responses to your question. I think Teri meant that her nasal sores resemble Halfpint's sores.

I also suffer from these and they are so painful. Mine are usually quite large too. We do have so much to put up with
Hugs to you girls

Hi there,

I get these sores too. They really are painful and they last sometimes 2 weeks for me. How frustrating this disease can be.

Hi,

I get these sores too. Mine start off as raised red lumps and then they 'break' and leave an open sore. My GP gave me a lotion called Naseprin which helps a little with the pain. It looks like vaseline but it does seem to clear them up quicker than before.

Hope this helps

I have only had one at the lower part of the septum, if that's what the dividing nostril bit's called. I am sure it was one of the earliest lupus signs, looking back. It began as a sore lump as if it might be a spot starting but turned into a sore area with a flakey sort of crust. It's all healed now but can still get a bit sore if I am flaring.

I also had one last year higher up when I came out of remission.

I hope yours clears up soon whatever it is.

how on earth do you know what your nasal sores look like ?

The sores that I get are actually inside my nose - how can I see what they look like when they are up my nose ?

Where do you guys get your sores ?

I have always thought that the main reason I get nasal sores is coz my nose gets so dry (sjogrens)

cheers

[i][b]Hi style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif ,
I must agree with Raglet, how do you know what they look like when they are up your nose?
All that I know is that my nose bleeds every day and is very sore all of the time.
I have tried different creams including Zovirax but nothing seems to help.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cathy, sometimes vaseline is very good for nasal sores/dry nose/bleeding noses. I use it when the sores are bad, my daughter uses it when her allergies are bad and she has nose bleeds. An ENT recommended it to her (she doesnt have lupus). There are other reasons for nose bleeds though, anemia, high bp etc. so best to make sure thats not the cause for you.

love

Hi Lily,
Thanks for the advice.
Anything is worth a try and I will certainly speak to my Rheumy about it at my next appointment especially as the problem seems to be getting worse.
Take care.

What happened? I just wrote a note, pressed "reply" and it was lost. That's frustrating. I'll now condense it. I have one huge nasal sore which I've had for 2 years. My dr. rx. "Oracort". When I use it the sore doesn't bleed as much and the scab (oh gross) isn't as hard. But it doesn't go away. Has anyone had their ulsers go away?

Mine are usually on the nasal septum...Right now, though, they are up higher and throughout my left nostril...too much info maybe ugh style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

I can tell what they look like when they are on the lower part of the septum. Maybe that's what the others mean when they describe what they look like. You can kinda see inside there.

Mine may go away for a week or two, but then they come back. I've also had the in my mouth (cheeks and inside of lips) and roof of my mouth (that's a fun one!)

Those ******s up your beak really burn! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

my dr's have told me to use vasoline on a q-tip.
put it as far as you can stand it .
it helps to keep them softer, that way they
don't hurt as much.
