I just wanted to tell you that I am pleased to say that my GP is supporting my application for dla. It has taken years for me to approach her for this, mainly because I didnt want to admit all the problems I have for fear of embarrasment/ sounding as if I was a hypochondriac. She said she found it helpful to now have such a good idea of how I am affected (I gave her the relevant pages from the dla form which describes the problems with mobility, fatigue, etc).
I only hope that I actually get it now after all the trouble & stress it takes to apply.
Good luck to anyone else who is thinking of applying.

hi trisha
best of luck to you :luck: I am glad you decided to apply :)
It took me a long time to apply too!! I thought I didn't deserve it because of my husbands earnings, but I was eventually talked into it & had no problems at all......
I was assessed a couple of years later when I was pregnant & feeling well (typical) but I was lucky the doctor still approved me,he sort of said that my condition spoke for itself..so please try not to worry i'm sure you will be fine..
let us know how you get on...karen x

I am on DLA it is a great help. I saw several Docs.but all were very helpful. I finally after a couple of awards for 2 or 3 years was awarded it indefinitely. I am constantly grateful knowing the struggle some people have to get it.
x Lola
Good Luck to all who are applying.

Wishing everyone all the best with the benefits, I know how hard it can be in the past. Just had mine reviewed and accepted for DLA and lucky for me it only took 3 weeks.

:) Hi Im really so pleased you have got our dla. I have been claiming it successfully for about 4 years now and my last review they actually increased the care up to the middle rate care because I have so many other complicated medical issues, not least a major heart problem ontop of the sle etc. For anyone reading this, I actually have had my claim completed by my local citizens advice bureau who are specialised in this and it was that lady's intervention that had my dla care increased (previously social services had appealed and got refused!). It has been granted for 3 years and although I dont really anticipate my situation changing as regards care or mobility I hope next time it comes up for renewal that it may even be for a longer time.
Interestingly, my incapacity benefit confirmation states I have a a disability/illness that can be treated as meeting the threshold of incapacity and do not have to undergo the assessment. So I dont know whether I will have to claim again as long as I continue to satisfy their conditions, which I do.
Hope this is helpful to someone wanting to claim dla.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas.

Hope it's successful. Maybe your local Citizens Advice Bureau can help, they are excellent and have all the information on benefits etc any will help you fill in the claim form etc. Worth a try .... lots and lots of luck, Jan xx
