Hello everyone!
Does anybody know what benefits lupus sufferers (SLE) are entitled to from the government? Apart from Disibility Living Allowance (DLA)? Please help!

Hello Diane
Lupus sufferers aren't entitled to any benefits in particular. Lupus isn't included in the list of chronic diseases that get free prescriptions.
So, available benefits depend on individual entitlements. Disability for example depends on how disabled you are whatever the cause. Others depend on earnings, income, employment record, family situation and all the other circumstances that make for eligibility for that particular benefit.
Cheers
Clare

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi i am in the process of sorting out benifits i spoke to my local benifit office who then got someone to phone me and do the paperwork over the phone this was for incapacity benifit and income support. I will receive forms to sign within the next few days and that was it i did need medical certificate as well. The advisor i spoke to said it would be a straight forward claim and recommended i apply for DLA. How this will turn ou i don't know but will keep you posted as to the outcome. I have'nt been diagnosed with which lupus i have yet (stuck on waiting list) but have tested positive and on these grounds i was still eligible, hope this helps will let you know outcome in the meantime phone your local benifit office.
good luck best wishes

Hi Diane
Like Clare has mentioned....having Lupus doesn't mean that you will automatically be entitled to any benefits it will depend on how you have been effected.
Having Lupus also doesn't mean free prescriptions unless you have been tested for Hypoandrenalism or your Consultant/GP determines you suffer with it without the 'short synacthen test'.......you would then be entitled to free prescriptions.
Try this site it is very helpful and explains about all the benefits http://www.benefitsnow.co.uk/ for a Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance Self-Assessment and Information Service

If you have any anti-convulsant medications, all prescriptions become free.
