Help I am having problems again. The inside of my thumb knuckle has a bone spur on it which I think is what is giving me so much pain and numbness in my hand and up my arm, however, I just spoke to the rhuemy's secretary who said that the recent x-ray I had shows no erosion. I can actually feel the spur and so can my partner. This is making me feel like I am going crazy so I have to double check with him that I am not imagening things. Why is it that the x-ray isn't showing this?

I have also had back the dsDNA test which is 2.0 I don't know what this means is it normal?

Also I have just read another post about a thyroid level which was causing trouble and it made me look at my copies these are the latest levels I have:- T4 level 25 - TSH level 0.68 dated 23/02/05
T4 18 - TSH 0.59 dated 09/06/05
T4 21 - TSH 1.1 dated 16/11/05

The reason I am worried is because I am losing so much weight and feel like **** at the moment and I could really do with some help.

Hi Fran.

Athough I don't have the answers for you.... are you sure it is a bone spur? Perhaps it could be a nodule or something else that wouldn't show on the xray?

I hope that you do get some answers. If it is causing that much pain, have them look at it again. Did they already look at it and say a bone spur?

As for your test results, I know they usually have a normal range. Does yours?

I am not familar with those numbers but if you call them ask them about that too.

Maybe others can be of more help.

Hope this gets better soon and at the least you get some answers and find some relief.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jump.gif Hi fran, you said that the nurse said that the x-ray shows no erosions. That is different than a nodule, a calcium buildup, which both you and your hubby could possibly feel. Sometimes, that's all it is, it's just in the wording. Even so, it bothers you, and you deserve an answer that is clear to you and understandable. As for the thyroid test levels, don't ever try to self diagnose a test and it;s results. Tests differ from person to person, aand also why the dr. ordered it. I hope this helps a little.

Be well and keep posting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

Hi Fran,

If you look at the test results as Paula said there should be normal ranges listed.

Going on labs I've had your DsDNA is fine if its under 4, your TSH is normal and I dont know about the T4.

Of course all labs will vary with their normal ranges, but with the first two they appear to be well in range.

love
Lily

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Thanx.gif for all the replies. The only way I can say it is a bone spur is that I also have them in my mouth, on my ankles and on the knuckles of my right hand, but these do not bother me I have had them for several years. The doctor told me that the one on my ankle is a bone spur, so I just assumed that the one on my thumb was. I did tell the rheumy about this but my partner said that he did not think he was listening, which seems about right so far! It is bothering me so badly that I can hardly do anything, my hand goes completely numb, then it goes up my arm which is really painful. It is a very hard boney lump it does not move about like an RA nodule (my sister has these so we compared, hers seem to be softer and have movement).

It is good news that the DSDNA is normal though. As for the other tests they are for my thyroid which they have to look at because of the enormous weight loss, used to be a good size 12 now I am finding a size 10 too big. I did have trouble 20 years ago with my thyroid and lost a great deal of weight then but it corrected itself after awhile.

Thanks again for all your help. I will have to keep on fighting the system to get my hand seen to.
