This is a truly bizarre sensation that I experienced tonight. Am hoping that someone may be familiar with it.
I was making jewelry which is a very calming, relaxing activity for me, when suddenly it felt like my brain was buzzing. I mean inside my head was vibrating so very rapidly as to be impossible to recreate the movement with my hands or by making a sound in trying to describe it to my hubby. Does that make any sense at all?? It was brief, only maybe 5-10 seconds, and wasn't painful. Just very intense and rather frightening actually.
I had seizure activity in the past, and this was not like anything I ever experienced. I had no post-ictal side effects, so I don't suspect seizure. It caused my eyesight to go blurry for just a moment, but I wear glasses anyway, and while doing my jewelry, I wear magnifying glasses (reading glasses) so that I can see the tiny parts up close. At the time, my real glasses were hanging around my neck and the readers were on the tip of my nose. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/notlook.gif
<Sigh> I guess I'll mention it to my rheumy when she calls tomorrow to discuss my labs. This week I've increased my blood thinner due to possible APS complications, so maybe it has to do with that? We shall see.
Take care all, Pollyanna

Hi pollyanna style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wiggle.gif
I read your post earlier and did not respond because I have never had anything like you have described. I have just been reading on this site on the information pages and thought of you because on the medications part there is a section on anti-malarial tablets and their side effects, (now wondering if you are taking them) and it clearly says that ringing or buzzing in the head can be a side effect of these tablets. just thought that might help a bit. definately see your doctor though.
Good luck

I have had this sensation for about 10 years. It is a like your brain is physically vibrating in your skull. It only lasts for a short period of time and there seems to be no lasting side effects but it is very frightening the first few times it happens. I don't know what causes it or why it happens. Doctors just look at me like I am crazy. I hope you can find better answers then me. Laura

(((HUGS)))
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing some problems. I have never had the head buzz/vibrations except maybe after a few drinks style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/faint.gif but lately I have had these little sharp stabbing pains, normally very brief, in the ole noggin. Either way, not quite sure what to make of them. I would say that it is definately worth mentioning to your doctor, maybe he can give some insight. I plan on asking mine Monday. Hopefully, he will not send this horse to a glue factory!
Nancy
PS. I make jewelry as well and yes indeed, I find it very relaxing!!

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Thanx.gif For your replies. As an update, my rheumy's nurse called...to tell me the lab lost my blood! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops.gif So I had to go have more pulled yesterday and now I won't talk to her until sometime next week. <sigh> So what else is new in Lupie Land - more waiting!
Gina, that's a good point about the plaquenil. I've been on that for some years now, and while I plan to tell my doc about the vibrations, I sure hope it's not the plaq - that drug has been a lifesaver for me!
Laura and Pebbles, it sounds like you know what I'm talking about, and I feel for you. Hopefully I'll have some answers soon that I can share with you.
Nancy and Andi, we share the stabbing pain syndrome together. I did tell her about those head "pains" (they really aren't headaches for me - too short of duration) and she felt like it was most likely caused by the APS. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hugbetter.gif Time will tell as I've increased the aspirin by four times.
Halfpint and Teri, thank you for your support! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif It really makes me feel better to know that I'm not alone. Thank you all again for your comments and I'll let you know what I find out later next week.
Have a blessed Easter! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif Pollyanna

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Just an update on the ongoing chase to catch my rheumy! The weird head vibrations are getting more frequent, just not as scary since I'm getting used to them now. That's good. But still disconcerting when it happens.
My blood work for the APS was within normal limits, so we don't think that's the culprit. Which actually worries me more, because if that's not the cause ... then what is??? style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/afraid.gif
My cholesteral is perfect - both the good and the bad. So could it be seizure activity? hmmmmmm We shall see. For now, I've quadrupled the amount of aspirin I'm taking, so we'll give that a chance to work first. Then maybe a trip to the neuro is in order. Yuck!
Thanks for the support ladies and gents - you're the greatest! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif

hay pollyanna, i get those weird head vibrations too once and a while, it is weird its like ur brain is bouncing around in ur head, i also get those intense headaches too (not at the same time thou) and the headaches only last for a second its really intense like a stabbing pain but one second or less later its gone and sometimes it will last for a few hours or even a day or more, but since its not continuous its like totally livable. I?ve never really thought to ask about the vibrations or headaches, but please let us all know what u find out style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif

Hi Pollyanna,
I have had something similar in the past. It seemed to be linked to a very high dose of Effexor (an anti-depressant) I was taking at the time. I think it would be a good idea to look at your meds and see if any of them could be the culprit. When it happened to me, my head would actually tick slightly for a few seconds and my pupils would apparently shake a bit. I only know this because my mother happened to be looking right at me when it happened once and told me what she saw. Anyway, good luck, let us know what you find out.
Hi, I'm a lurker but wanted to jump in on this one. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif
The vibration feeling started in Feb for me. As the previous poster mentioned, I also get these ticks that usually go along with it. When my head is "acting up" I will sometimes get a pulling/pressure in the base of my skull in the back. For me there is a direct co-relationship with bad days and disease activity and these episodes. My Rheumy referred me to a Neurologist last month and she is thinking it is from vasculitis in the neck or brain. She ordered an MRI and EEG also. I go back next week to get the results. I was kind of embarrassed to tell my docs about this because it seemed so far-fetched but the neurologist seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. She didn't give me much information at all at my last appt. though. She said she wanted to see the MRI and EEG results first. I'll updated next week when I see her again. The episodes are very unsettling and frightening to me. I've never had a seizure or anything such as this.
