[Hi everyone,

My name is Roberta and I was dx six years ago. I've just discovered this site and I'm so happy to have found it. I'm from South Africa where SLE is still considered rare so its really nice to read all these postings.
After a third miscarriage at 10 wks, two weeks ago I feel just about ready to give up on having a baby. It's just too painful style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tantrum.gif and frustrating. I was on aspirin and heparin daily injections from my 5th wk of the pregnancy and still I lost it. Have any of you had a successful recent pregnancy in spite of having APS?

Hello Roberta,

Welcome to the site.. i hope you find all the support you need here.

I have had a successfull pregnancy even though i too have SLE and APS, in your post you mentioned that you dident start taking asprin and heparin until you were 5 weeks into your pregnancy.. in my case i started the asprin before i concieved and then the heparin straight away , just something as simple as this could make all the differance.

How is your SLE at the moment? is it supressed at all? If the Lupus is active it would be better to get yourself well first and give your body the best chance.

I am so sorry for your losses... I had 7 miscarriages and it was the worst thing that i have ever been through, please dont let this dreadfull disease deny you of what should be the most natural thing in the world!
Personally i would have found it more painfull to give up than to keep trying and i would not advise you to do that if i did not believe you would have a baby at the end of such a difficult journey.

Please keep intouch and let us know how things are going.

sending love and support

lucy x

I wish you the best You are at a great site. My sister inlaw had Lupus and gave birth to two boys. They are now 21 and 19. She did not know she had Lupus till after she delivered her 2nd child. The pregnancy triggered her systems . Unfortunately she only lived for 4 years. She just kept having strokes. But that was 19 years ago and the treatments are better now. Her son has the Antiphophlipid antibody syndrome he suffered one stroke at 11 years old- he recovered perfectly. my daughter has Lupus or Mixed connective tissue her doctors do not want her to get pregnant, she is only 15 but they have told me they adviced against it later in life. So this is a hard choice for you the stress of trying to concieve is extremly hard and then a miscarriage is devastating. I remember having to go through infertility treatments with my first child it was very hard. I really hope you are ok and that everything works out for you. I wish you the very best style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/goodvibes.gif Charlett

Hi everybody,

Thanx for the positive encouragement. I'm not going to put a possible pregnancy out of my mind but I am going to wait and let my body and mind heal first. You guys all seem so clued up on your condition and this site is so informative. I felt so alone with my gripes, glad to know I'm not alone. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Thanx.gif
