Hi everyone.

Just curiuos what you told if you have been told you have blood in your urine under the microscope.

I know a lot of you have asked this question before.

The rhemo said to me, it is normal for woman to have it in their urine.

The gynocologist said to me, it is not normal for you to have in your urine and you need to be seen by urologist.

The GP said it was due to urinary tract infection and should not be there.

The infectious specialist said not to worry about it.

So, I have had it in my urine off and on for many years. No one ever seems concerned about it.

What have you been told?

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi Helloos, Boy, I think that you have been told more "yes's" and
more "no's" thaan anyone. As far as I know, it is never "normal" to have
blood in your urine. I could be wrong, but blood means that something went
wrong some where, that somewhere was bleeding, and now it is exiting your
body, and you are seeing it as a signal of that something wrong. Does that
make any sense? Like I said, I may very well be wrong, but it just does
not sound like it could be normal to me. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hehe.gif

Be well and keep posting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif

H i i had blood in my urine 3 weeks ago first was told normal cos i'm a woman till i pointed out that i had a hysterectomy 11 years earlier at the age of 33. then i was told it was a kidney infection and then told it was all viral which annoys me cos in the dictionary virus means your guess is as good as mine.

Paula,

I'd follow your Gyn's advice in a previous post and see a Urologist, at least they can establish where its coming from, a very common cause in women is the bladder and that should always be checked out first, along with grumbling infections which will cause inflammation anywhere in the urinary tract and as a consequence some blood will show up. Cystitis can also cause it, I noted in a previous post you have burning and stinging, so thats another avenue to explore.

It also depends how much blood in urine, if its consistently like that, if its more than a trace, you dont have your period and you dont have any infection then I'd see a Urologist.

love
Lily

Hi all and thanks for your advice.

Yes, I did make an appointment with the urologist and I go not this Friday but next.

I went to this urologist before I had my uterus removed. He is a good doctor. He said "it is your uterus" and the gyno thought it was my bladder causing the problems. So he is a good doctor and I do have faith in him.

The only thing is I had that whole "wire up the uretha" thing in the office and I DO NOT LIKE THAT.

I do not want that again and I know he will see need to look....... that is my phobia, sad but true.

Hi, I agree... I think you need to get it checked. I have lupus with kidney involvement and how they diagnosed me was that they found blood and protein in my urine. Do you have any protein in your urine?

My oldest daughter has had blood in her urine for years. After extensive workups they decided it is normal for her. It should be checked out though to make sure you don't have some larger problem brewing.

Take care,

I had microscpic blood and protein and eventually was sent to a urologist who did a cystoscopy in the hospital I was put under anesthesia for this procedure...he said it was from an infection and that i will probably have to have it looked at again...in the future...

Hello!

I had protein +1 since 1999 and it showed in all urine tests I had. I was told the same as you, that it was probably a mild infection and would clear up. Occasionally I had blood and urine and nobody seemed unduly concerned so I assumed it only mattered in pregnancy. Late last year I had a routine urine test during a smear appointment and the nurse advised she thought it was best to send away a sample and possibly refer me to a kidney specialist. When I saw the kidney guy he said that lupus can affect the kidneys with no outward symptoms and is usually only detected via urine samples. I have now had a biopsy to assess the level of damage for future reference should the kidneys deteriorate. When I asked why it wasnt picked up sooner the Dr looked sheepish and said that it couldve just been an infection!
I am always wary when they attribute every odd thing that happens to lupus, but blood in your urine is one of the symptoms and is best for your own peace of mind to get it investigated.

I hope all goes well!!
