View Full Version : I WON!!!!!!

I cannot believe it -- I actually won benefits!!!!!! I haven't received the letter yet. I checked my status online, as I have been doing every few days and it said a decision had been made.
So, I called SSA and a gentleman looked it up for me. He said I will start receiving benefits next month! I'm really shocked! It hasn't even been 90 days since I filed the application! All I can say is that my doctors must have really come through for me. AND I think it helped that I went to SSA and had them do the application on my behalf. The lady saw how bad I am and they did begin a fast-track for people they deem are obviously disabled -- maybe that's what happened.
Regardless, this takes a HUGE load off my mind! The benefit isn't enough to live on but it happened so fast that I haven't had to touch my savings so I'll be OK.

Thank you, Paula!!!!!! Oh, this is such a relief! I started to cry on the phone and told the man that he had made my day because I'd been so worried! He was really sweet!

Julie,
Congratulations on it going through so quickly. Remember your medicare won't start till May 2008. So keep your cobra or however it works for teachers going till then. I was fortunate I had a slight overlap and never had to go without insurance.

CONGRATS!!!
I'm glad you didn't have to wait a long time like most of us here. My friend just got approved 2 months ago after waiting 5 years!!!! She still has not got a check..they said she might get hers started in May and her backpay in may also.

I got my award letter today -- it said I'll have a review in 3 years. What really astonished me was they already deposited my back benefit! It showed up in my bank account on Monday and since my birthday is early in the month, my next check will arrive in 12 days!
I'm just sighing with relief. I hope that my case's quick resolution is a sign that they really are improving the system this year and that everyone here will also get their approvals really FAST!

Tammy,
I hope so, too! They did work on new policies for SS-D and if my case is any indication, it will speed up the process. I thought it was interesting that I got my approval letter from Maryland and not from Austin.
Joan,
Oooops, I already had a celebration! Some friends, my son and I went out for dinner on Sunday! I didn't take pics -- sorry!

Congrats!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif I also saw your post on the slero site.
You got your approval letter from Maryland, because that's where the SSA is headquartered. The states handle the first stage of the application for the SSA.
I also got my back pay before I got an official letter, but who am I to complain??
Anyhow, congratulations again!
