I am so new to all of this, however it just so happens that my ob/gyn was the first to think I may have lupus. I talk to him a lot because I am closer to him as a patient/doctor than anyone else. Guess you get a certain bond with someone after they have delivered your child.haha He has assured me that if I want to have anymore children that women with lupus do it all the time. The only concern it the hdroxychorquine (however you spell it) If I were you I would talk to your ob and have him consult with your lupus dr. Good luck. My child is at an age right now that if you would like to hang out with her for a while you may not be in such a hurry to get pregnant. terrible two's are setting in. Not really, she is my little angel. I pray that you get to experience soon.Take care .
Dear Donna,

There seems to be two opinions about using plaquenil in pregnancy. The old fashioned view is don't give any drugs at all, including plaquenil.
The more up to date view is that the risks of the lupus flaring without the use of the drug outweigh the risks of giving the drug.
Ie, it is safe to use in pregnancy.
There are many people on this forum who have used it while pregnancy without problems, and their babies are just fine.
Pregnancy is considered 'high risk' in mums with SLE, so you should be cared for by an obstetrician, and preferable one with experience with women with SLE.
It is also important to know if you have Ro antibodies, as these can cause complications in the baby. APS antibodies (lupus anticoagulant and/or antiphospholipid) can increase the risk of miscarriage and still birth, and should also be tested for.
If you are thinking of getting pregnant soon, it is a good idea to find an opstetrician and have a pre-conception appointment to discuss these issues, and also find out the doctors opinions on the use of plaquenil and other medications.
All the best,
X C X
