Hello Everyone!
I am sure I am not alone out there who is getting very frustrated with weight loss! I am not on medication that would put on added weight. I can't seem to lose the extra weight. I am not over weight but would like to lose those extra pounds that seem to creep up on you as you get older. (50 is around the corner!) style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif
I am trying weight watchers and I know it works but why does it take forever before I see even one pound weight loss? Someone please give their expert advise as to what has worked for them. I know everyone is different and our bodies work in different ways. Any "tips" would be greatly appreciated! I have been doing my crunches daily and I know it is working "some" but it seems to be taking forever!! I am getting so discouraged. My husband has been doing the adkins (sp?) diet for a few weeks to drop his extra weight and then plans to move onto a regular "healthy" diet. He has lost over 12 pounds with in the past two weeks and I can see the difference! I have thought about doing the same for a couple weeks just to get where I want to be and then switch over to a more healthy diet like weight watchers to maintain my weight. What do you think? We are going on vacation the end of July and I would love to feel good about how I look. I would be happy with a loss of 15 pounds but I can't seem to get there!!!
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I am not alone out here!
Thanks,
Janice

Hi Janice style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif
Weight Watcher's will work eventually you just have to make sure your portions are correct size....drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and write everything that goes into your mouth even that little 'sneaky leftover' in your diary.
I started weight watchers, was on steroids and gained 5 stone but turned it round in 18 months.....I was referred to my local gym by the physiotherapist and my rheumie and together with the weight watchers diet I have lost 64 pound that's 4? stone loss in 18 months. I have been on steroids for the last five years and don't expect to get off them in the forseeable future but at least I am down to a 7.5mg maintanance dose.
I found that counting the points even with exercise I lost about ? lb a week but when I changed to the 'no point' which means no bread, pastries, biscuits, sweets or convienience (sorry sp) foods and stuck to the weight watchers no point list I soon started to lose between 2 & 3 lb per week.
Just be patient with yourself honey and it will come off.......don't forget to measure yourself as sometimes I didn't lose weight but did lose inches......
Good Luck xxxxhazel

Hello,
Oh how I can relate to this subject. I have been super discouraged with regards to weight issues. I was overweight before the Diagnosis of Lupus. I have been on Steroids on and off however have been on high doses for four months now, up to 80 mg per day and now taking 20 mg per day.
It was encouraging to read your reply Hazel ... as I have wondered how in the world am I going to lose this weight. I have gained atleast thirty pounds from this round of steroids. I cried in my Rheumies office about it and he told me that I cant lose weight at the dose of steroids that I am taking. That wasnt encouraging. I am extremely sedentary. I have been requiring assitance with walking lately because of a flare up with problems in my right leg.
Your Post Hazel helped me to see that where there is a will there is a way.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Sincerely,
Kaesara

I've also been there. I was up to 195lbs on a 5'4" frame. Not happy about it, some was due to prednisone. Over the past 5 years or so, I got my weight down to 112-115lbs. How, no magic pill. Diet, exercise and time. I knew the weight did not go on overnight (althought it seemed like it did) and it wasn't going to come off overnight. I set very realistic goals, usually 4-5lbs a month weight loss and kept a weight diary. I ate healthy foods and allowed myself a "treat" once a week, so I didn't feel deprived. It is a lifestyle, not a diet. As soon as you start thinking like that it can make it easier. Try to be happy with whatever you lose by July, even if it is not the desired 15lbs.
Weight Watchers is a healthy diet, one that can be followed for a lifetime.
Good luck.

Hi there Kaesara style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif
Sorry to hear that you have been having some problems with your right leg which reqire you to use a stick.....just wanted to let you know that I have had about 3 set backs since starting the WW diet about 2 years ago.
I over did it when I did a charity walk last September and paid the price of spending a week in hospital where I picked up a stomach bug and I had a flare and my Melitis kicked of again. Needless to say I didn't think about the WW diet but tied to watch that I didn't eat too many unhealthy things.
You just try to maintain the weight until you feel better then pick up where you left off it doesn't matter if you only lose ? lb a week. As Trish says....the weight doesn't go on overnight so don't expect to lose it overnight.......give yourself very small goals.
I am back on to WW diet this week so now I can lose the last 14 pounds that I want to lose.......I just had a little break and have tried to maintain my weight.
I wish you luck with the weight loss and for the first 6 months of the weight watchers diet I didn't do any exercise and was as sedentary as you sound style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif take care xxxxxhazel
<span style="color:#006600">hi
I don't think I needa add anyth more hving read others' replies.
But I wanted to tell you sth. I use a stretagy to make sure I don't eat too much food. When I wanna eat particular high-fat food, I only chew them for sometime but never swallow them, untill I'm satisfied with the taste. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigsmile.gif
I know it's not a v good thing to do and I know it's kinda down-right disgusting but it helps. Sometimes, when I wanna eat sth I see really bad and wasn't even hungry, then I would use tht stretagy so dat I won't have to deal with extra weight kicking in.
Oh, it's also V important to wash the mouth after chewing before swallowing the food left in your mouth. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif (Sometimes, I cheat on myself by eating them. hehe )
hope you'll find this helpful.
Sue
