Hi - first time I have used this site.

I'm trying to get pregnant, and was wondering how other mothers with Lupus handle things once the baby is born. I only have a mild case of Lupus, but I do get very tired, very often. So, I'm wondering how I'm going to cope with a baby on the scene??

Does any one have any advice on how they coped once the baby was born?
Of course, all Mums are tired looking after a new baby, but how much worse is it for Lupus Mums?
Also, has anyone given birth at Queen Charlotte's in Hammersmith, London? If so, would you recommend it as a good hospitial for Lupus paitents?

Thanks for any advice....

Hello there and welcome to the site,

When my son was born one of the first rules that i had to learn was not to play super mum!

Sleep when the baby sleeps and accept any help going !! , as you will already know Lupus affects each of us differently ... I can remember that the joint pain made it so difficult to fasten the press studs on his baby grow and I would often struggle to hold him because my wrists were weak. BUT .......

The love and determination that i had just took over and looking back it did not matter how ill i felt because i was the happiest and proudest person alive.

Oh yeah , ROUTINE ... GREAT FOR YOU AND BABY !! we were in a routine very early and i truley belive that this is what made him such a content and easy baby.

Good luck with your baby making and keep us posted.

Keep well and look after yourself !!

Love Lucy x

thanks for your note - appreciated.
I have been considering the possibility of getting a nanny to help out... guess I gotta actually get pregnant first though!

cheers

I would recommend staying on your treatment if it's helping you during and after pregnancy. I stopped taking Plaquenil to breastfeed (even though it's a "B" rating which is as good as it gets for breastfeeding medications practically speaking) and am suffering for it now.

I would also not recommend daycare since you'll be exposed to hundreds of germs/viruses within the 1st two years of baby's life if baby goes to daycare. Unfortunately, that is where my baby went and I am paying dearly for it. I may be filing for disability soon since I have been so ill for over a year now.
