style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif I would like to know whether anyone has tried using a suntanning bed.
I am very tempted to try one called (brand name edited out - CB) It guarantees a tan in 3-4 sessions
and you only have to sun tan for 12 minutes because it does both sides of the body.
Wondering if anyone has tried a sunbed--because I cant stand being soooo white and pale.
Hope someone can help

I would also like to add that I have Discoid Lupus-- very mild
Thanks
Sandy

Hi,

Sun beds are completely OUT - they give you just as high a dose of UV light as the sun - sometimes even higher. Please DO NOT use one. A "fast" tanner isn't better for you that a slow one. They are both bad.

If you want a tan, try a fake tan/ sunnless tan. They are much better now that a few years ago and you can still get a nice brown colour without having to expose yourself to the UV.

Even if you ?ren't very sunsensitive, it just isn't worth the risk to sunbathe. Your reaction can change over time, and you can develop internal complications without noticing anything at first.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but please use an alternative - not the sun bed or the real sun style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hide.gif

I Agree. Before I was dx with UCTD, I used a tanning bed one summer before my wedding and have had brown patches on my face ever since.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif hi there my name is genette,
please dont go on sun beds they are so bad for us loopies and if you go out in the sun i would recormend using fac 30-50 i no that you want to look nice and brown but trust us it can harm your skin and make you poorly,
if you want a tan use johnsons holiday skin i use that and over time it builds up a nice natural tan.
well you take care love genette style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/foryou.gif

I suggest googling discoid lupus and clicking on images up at the top.

Skin lupus is no way attractive and discoid can result in permanent scarring leaving sore bald patches on the scalp, and marks like you've been bitten and gnawed on the face and body.

There's also the very real risk of skin cancer which affects one in five Americans. I wonder what public reaction would be if one in five of the population was injured in road accidents

If I was ruler for a day, I would close all tanning parlours down and make the use of sun beds or any UV producing equipment illegal except for therapeutic purposes in strictly controlled settings.

Cheers all the same
