<span style="color:#000099">Hi all,

I am a 29 year old male who was diagnosed in 2000. I got married in late summer 2005, and my wife and I are looking to start a family ASAP, but I am very anxious on the position of having kids what with my Lupus etc.

Does anyone have any advice on this issue? Such as points and tips etc?

All help greatly appreciated.

Hi Rhys,

I don't see where it should be a problem. I know that women with lupus have to be tested for a certain kind of clotting issue. But as far as I know, men don't have a problem with fertility. As far as worrying about passing lupus on to your child, the chances are pretty slim. I have four of my own, and so far they are all okay.

Good luck and I wish you and your wife all the best with your future baby!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cloud9.gif

Hello Rhys,

I don't see a problem either. As for advice, be caring, patient, and keep the flowers and chocolate well supplied. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

I wish you and your wife all the best as well. Take care, good luck, and let us know how it goes. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/goodvibes.gif

The only problem I have heard about is the risk of fetal deformity caused by certain drugs. I have not read anything to suggest that men are with lupus are less fertile but I don't know if the major chemo drugs might affect them in some way.
Look up the meds you are on for information on these aspects. The riska of children developing lupus or similar are slightly higher but as far as I can make out, not higher than the risks of children with severe health problems being born to healthy people.

We don't hear so much about the perfectly terrible things that can happen in "normal" pregnancies.

Have fun !
