Hi all

Have been back to see my specialist and was given more new tablets to add to the current lot...lol
I am now taking... Azathioprine, losec, asprin, persantin, lyrica and the new stuff is methotrexate, folic acid and mobic. I seem to be doing ok on them style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif How does the methotrexate and azathioprine work for others?
The other thing I wanted to ask was about mouth ulcers. I am getting huge things under my tongue and they have gone from a round shape to long. What works to clear them up? The one that has just appeared under my tongue only went on tuesday and back today.

The only thing that I have found that helps with mouth ulcers is to do a swish and spit rinse with warm salt water a couple of times a day. Someone else may know another trick. I know that they are no fun.

As for the medications that you mentioned, I cannot help you as I am not taking them. Again, hopefully someone who is will come along and can answer your questions.

Lesions under your tongue would be a hard thing. I have been told that they make a steriod mouth rince that can be used.
My wife has not had lesions for a while now but when she does she gets them on the roof of her mouth as a rule.
The Doc gives her a steriod ointment that she can put on her plate ( Dental Fixture not the one you eat off of ) and put it back in and it helps.
sorry I do not remember the name as I said it has been awhile since she needed it.

queentutti,

If you do a search on mouth ulcers you will find many different things that members here use to treat them. Milk of Magnesia is one, hydrogen peroxide is another but make sure you rinse and spit with that one. I also use mouth wash that is alcohol free.

I couldn't tolerate the imuran/aza with methotrexate. Now I have methotrexate and arava together and it works fairly well. For my lupus I also take plaquenil and mobic. Then other meds for other symptoms, diseases, problems.

Take care,
Karen

Hi there queentutti

I take methotrexate with the folic acid which helps with the side effects you can have with the metho. I also take Actonel, Prednisolone, warfarin and Plaquenil.

After taking plaquenil for two weeks my ulcers disappeared and up until then I had mouth, nose and eye ulcers 24/7. The only time I develop ulcers nowadays is if I am in a big flare.

I find the methotrexate helps me a lot although it didn't start to improve till I started taking a higher dose, I take 20mgs one day a week. What dose are you taking?

It's interesting to hear someone that is taking both azathioprine and methotrexate together....I didn't think you could take both together. I had tried Azathioprine after my first lot of low dose IV chemo for twelve months then after I had another course of IV Cyclophosphamide the year after. When the chemo finished they started me on the metho as the azath hadn't worked the way it was supposed to.

If you are still getting the mouth ulcers and you are not taking plaquenil then it might be a good idea to ask your doctor if you can have it.

Hope things start to really improve for you xxxxhazel

Queen Tutti,

My guess is that it is the Lyrica. Some of us are extra sensitive to this kind of medication. I take gabapentin which is an older generic seizure medication. Because I am so sensitive to it I take my whole days dose at night it helps me sleep and allows my brain to function better during the day. Before I when I took it 3 times a day I was always falling asleep also.

Take care,
karen
