Hi Carol
I have moved it to this section
Thanks for the warning reminder. There's one about sprouts too - like bean sprouts not Brussels, anything that hangs about in water.

I am not one that likes to buy the packaged lettuce, however, my mother is, so I forwarded this information on to her. It is just down right startling what illnesses you can get from everyday living!!

Ok, so with the possibility that the pathogens traveled up the root system into the lettuce and can't be washed off......do we still eat lettuce? It seems that even non-prepackaged lettuce and other raw greens would be susceptible to this. What to do???
What will you folks do? Who is still eating lettuce, raw spinach, etc?

I AM STILL EATING THE LETTUCE - EVERY NIGHT.
I wash it.
Even the bag if I get.
I don't understand, if we wash it, it still isn't good?
It has done nothing to me so far - and quiet for those sarcastic remarks - I know what mine would be "maybe that is what is wrong with your brain".

I think people are prehaps trying to read more in to this than is actually involved.
I buy packaged salads - but wash them in my salad spinner before eating. If I don't they upset my guts alot.
I think it is just basically that they are washed before packaging - but they can never be 100 % dry. This being the case the moisture will still be on the salad, and as they are packaged for quite a number of days the moisture goes off and can cause you to be ill if it is not washed first. Imagine if you left a glass of water on the window cill for 5 days or more you wouldn't then drink it would you!?
Also some of the countries these salads are shipped from you would not drink the tap water there if you was on holiday so why eat salad washed in that water!
I will not stop buying these as i like the mixture you get - but will always wash them, as you are also recommended to wash fruit before eating because of pesticides.
Regards
Jodi
