Chantal,
I take the pill form of methotrexate and it is once a week like the injection form. I have been on methotrexate for 3 years this time around before my remission I was on methotrexate for 5 or 6 years(really can't remember that was the early 1990's). It has been helpful both times. This time I need an extra med with the methotrexate to control my pain and inflammation as much as is possible. It is a form of chemotherapy but not nearly as strong as cellcept. It is normally prescribed for lupus patients that do not have internal organ involvement who have joint pain that plaquenil alone doesn't control.
I have heard that the injection type as less nausea than the pill form does. I only had some nausea the first couple weeks when I went on it and then each increase in dose I had some nausea. It takes something like 4-6 weeks to start working.
Take care,
Karen
I took Methotrexate about 3 years ago but got to many infections (pretty bad) so I had to stop taking it. But I have tried several medications since that time and I am back on Methotrexate again. I have been on it for two weeks now. I did have my Gallbladder taken out the last time I was on it,so my Rhematologist wanted me to give it another try hoping that maybe some of the infections I endured possibly came from infection from my gallbladder. Any ways I have to give it another try and she also wants me to add Humira to it. My Insurance has to approve this. I am scared about taking these two strong meds together but she said that Methotrexate will not work enough by itself. The Methotrexate hasn't really started working yet so I will have to wait and see what happens. I am kind of glad I am having to wait on the Humira because I really didn't want to take both meds at once at first because If I start having reactions or problems I would not know which medication would be causing it. SO hopfully I will be on Methotrexate for several more weeks before we add Humira. I will let you know how it does or doesn't help after I have been on it a while! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif I will also let you know if I have any side effects. GOD BLESS!!! style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Hi there I know there is a lot said about this drug. You can go do a search on here about it. Many people have their different thoughts and experiences on it.
I have chose not to take at this point, and instead try the DHEA. I am not sure where that one will lead me but I am interested in hearing how you do after you start it.
Good luck and keep updating your progress on this drug.

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif Hi Chantal,
I've been on methotrexate for several weeks now (lupie brain) maybe six weeks or so? Anyway, after about four weeks I started to feel better with regard to joint pain and am currently enjoying (knock on wood) a period of no joint pain! The first time in many, many years! I take pill form; 20 mg once a week.
Like Karen, I had mild nausea at first but I take mine at night, so I sleep through the worst of it. I don't work outside the home, and my weekends with my family are important, so I take it on Sunday nights and everyone knows that Mondays just aren't great days for me. I really don't have the nausea anymore, just kind of tired on Monday.
It's been a wonder drug for me and I wish you well on it. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif Let us know how you get on.
