Can you guys help me out here. My Rheumy prescribed me Prednisone and when i went back to my doctors she prescribed me Prednisolone. From the research that I've done on the internet, it seems that they are similar but not the same drug.
My Gp wasn't in today so I spoke to another doctors, she said that they are the same just different names. I'm not convinced.
What do you guys think?

Kam,
They both will do the same job as they are both steroids. I believe prednisolone is methyl prednisolone which doesn't affect the liver.
Take care,
Karen
Not quite the same, but essentially the same. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif
Confused now?

I looked them both up in a nursing drug handbook. There were 2 separate listings and each listing said not to be confused with the other drug.
In looking at the prescribing info, the dosage ranges are the same, and the purposes for prescribing are the same. Most, but not all, of the possible side effects are the same. The difference, as was said in an earlier post, is in the biliary tract, which includes the liver.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Everyone has given you great advice. I have taken both, but am currently on the methylprednisolone (medrol). I seem to tolerate the medrol better for some reason.
