I have just come out of hospital & had fragmin injections for 8 days because of suspected blood clot. Almost from the first day, I experienced hot flushes, I do wonder if it was the Fragmin because i had no other new medications. Anyone else had this experience.?
Unfortunately I felt too unwell & stressed style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/crying.gif to judge if the Fragmin helped my usual symptoms of Hughes which is a pity.
Its very nice to be home again.

I looked up Fragmin in a nursing drug handbook to see if flushing or hot flashes were listed as a side effect, and the only reactions listed were either a result of the blood thinning action or an allergic response. The possible side effects lists in the volume I looked in are not exhaustive, so it's possible that it could be a rare reaction.
I also checked to see if there were food/drug interactions that were known to cause flushing and there weren't any of those either.
There is also the possibility of a drug interaction that is not yet known. Since many of us take multiple meds, it's possible that it was an interaction with more than just one drug.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope you're on the mend now!

Hi Caper style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif
Like Angela I had been looking this up last night but couldnt find anything and then today, hey presto! I found this site (see attached link) where it says that Fragmin can cause flushing or redness of skin or burning. Its listed as a rare side effect.

Would be worth mentioning it to your doctor I would say or perhaps your pharmacist.
Welcome home and hope you feel better very soon

Caper,
I would go to the drug digest site and use the drug interaction checker. Type in Fragmin and then one by one add your other medications. It will come back with any interactions that can happen. You can be on 30 meds and still check all of them at once.

Thank you all of you for your help. I have done some more research as a result of your advice and the only thing that may explain my problem is that I have an intolerance to Pork, and this is mentioned as being related to Fragmin ( how strange style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ermm.gif )
I have now been off the Fragmin for a week and gradually the hot flushes are getting less and less, so it does seem to indicate a connection.
All the best
