A huge big style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif to everyone
Erm................. you are not going to believe this! Remember when I said in a post that the pain clinic would not 'take me on' as a patient cos their 'policy' is that if you are seeing a psychologist then you have to finish seeing them first............. well...... I got a phonecall from the pain clinic cos they want me to attend an appopintment next week. I am style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigsmile.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/faint.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/jump.gif cos I'm sure like many of you I have been in constant pain EVERY day since I've been ill and I am soooo glad they have decided to see me. I have a feeling that my psychy had something to do with it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif , I think that he has spoken with them about my case. I am only assuming but it is a turnaround to give me an appt especially when I saw psychy recently. I don't want to get my hopes up in case they shatter them again but I can't help but feel excited and that something positive is going to happen for a change, its a miracle or has Caro's pointy stick been doing the rounds style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

When I was last referred I had my appointment within 3 months which I was told that it could take around 6 months so that was really good except for the erm..... I have to be polite here style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif yep, the horrible pain consultant who saw me, he was rude, abrupt and boy did he need a pointy stick where the sun does not shine style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bigsmile.gif . So it is a puzzle as to who has re referred me, I think its my psychy but I will find out next week cos I am surprised that they want to see me next Wednesday, that has happened fast. i would love to have just 1 pain free day so I can style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asleep.gif and feel a bit human again style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/goodvibes.gif .
Love, hugs and sending millions of pain free vibes to everyone

Hi Friends,
Just wondering, why the heck would someone so mean, go into pain management. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hissy1.gif I really wonder, when people say that they have a calling, that sometimes they misunderstand the message. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif LOL My grandmother went to pain management and would come back so sore they she couldn't walk for days. She is in a wheelchair for arthritis and osteoporosis. I hope that this appointment go better than your last one. May the bird of paradise fly up the last one's nose. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/clover.gif Lots of Luck...I am Gisele
I'm happy for you, Jules. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
That has to be the most ridiculous policy I've ever heard of--not being able to get treatment for pain and see a psych at the same time! Stupid, stupid, stupid. I hope you don't see another lilliputian dr and all goes well this time around. Take care.

I AM SOOOOOO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was so stupid getting my hopes up, I received a letter this morning saying that I do have an appointment at the pain clinic to see their PSYCHOLOGIST style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tantrum.gif . When i went to the pain clinic last time I made it clear that I see a psychologist at the same hospital and I do not want to see their psychologist. Hubby said that if it gets me a step closer to being on the pain management programme then maybe I should (in so many words) 'play ball'. I understand what he is saying BUT why the heck should I or am I being unreasonable here? I feel like I am being stepped on all over again and that my wishes don't count. My psychologist and I are at a crucial point in the therapy and its really important that I focus for our next appointment.
I really value everyones opinion and understand if people may think I am being silly, so please tell me what you think and advice please
Love and hugs
Jules

Is it possible that they want you to meet once or twice with their psychologist so they can get information in order to help them decide how best to approach managing your pain? Since you told them you are already seeing a psychologist regularly, I'd be very surprised if they were expecting you to have regular visits with their psychologist (it's possible, but it is also considered unethical for doctors to try to "recruit" patients from other doctors).
Perhaps you could make a phone call to the clinic and ask what the purpose of the meeting with the psychologist is. Their psychologist might also want to talk with your psychologist so they can work together to coordinate your treatment better.
I'm not sure if these ideas are on the mark or not, but I thought they might be possibilities.
Good luck,
Renee

Thanks for replies, Renee I hadn't thought of it like that, maybe they want me to see their psychologist to assess pain etc, I feel a lot calmer about it now style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbs-up.gif
The phone number that I have for this pain clinic goes to an appointmnet switchboard so they would not be able to tell me why the pain clinic psychologist wants to see me. All I can do is go to the appointmnet and see what happens. I don't want to be awkward with their psychologist or get angry then be labelled as an awkward patient so I'll tell her 'assertively' if I'm not happy and why. Most important though is I REALLY want to know who has suggested this, then I can decide what steps to take. For now I should 'wind me neck in' style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif and just see what happens
Love and lotsa hugs

Jules,
I'll be eager to hear how it goes. For your sake, I hope it goes really well and that they can get on top of the pain pretty quickly. A break from pain is a wonderful thing!

I will be saying to her that it is so important to get this pain under control and I will also say that I am desperate for ! PAIN FREE DAY!
Someone has suggested to me (nobody from this site!) that maybe I should consider smoking something to get pain relief, so far I have not done that cos I don't really want to be going down that road but if I can't get pain relief then it is something that I may have to consider, unfortunatly
Love and hugs

Hi jules,
I just saw your last post and had to repy as my partner suggested the same thing last week. I worked in a respite centre for people with ms, mnd and md and our clients could smoke in thier rooms and on the grounds and if im honest I have often made their cigs for them.
I have been in a lot of pain the last few weeks with my shoulder and neck cant sleep lying down, cant drive my car and some days even a shower makes my cry with pain. I am waiting to admitted to hospital by my rhuemy for tests( waiting for a phone call) and hopfully get some pain relif.
I know smoking isnt a road anyone wants to go down but I will say if things dont improve for me soon it is something I will try just to be pain free for a couple of hours.
Good luck with the pain clinic I so hope they pull their socks up and give you some relief.
Take Care
Lisa
