View Full Version : Normal ANCA What does this mean???
style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif Hi again, sorry for keep asking questions. I had an ANCA test done???? and this was normal. I am having my ANA and anti-DNA on Weds this week. Because my ANCA was normal, does this mean that it is definately NOT or unkiely to be lupus or does this not come into it. So confuesed about all these blood tests.
Many thanks again

From what I have read, a normal ANCA does not exclude lupus and an abnormal one wouldn't mean you do have lupus. It could be abnormal in several other conditions.

Are they doing the various tests piecemeal ?
I hope you get some answers soon
All the best

Hi Jo style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/flowers.gif
Dont be sorry about asking questions. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif Thats what this site is here for style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif
Here is a link from this site about bloods tests including the ANCA (antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies), P-ANCA (perinuclear) C-ANCA (cytoplasmic)
http://www.uklupus.co.uk/tests.html
ANCA (antibody to white cells) is only found in approx 20% of lupus patients so its specifity for Lupus is poor. The fact that yours was normal doesnt seem to really indicate too much at all at this stage and your ANA and anti dsDNA results will be much more significant.
Best of luck with the tests and let us know how you get on.
Luv n stuff

style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wavey.gif Hi Jo, You can come here and ask all the questions that you
want, anytime that you want. Lupus is not diagnosed by blood tests
alone, they are used as a guideline to tell the dr. in which direction
he should go. So, please, don't worry so much about all those blood
tests. Lupus is diagnosed a great deal from all the symptoms that you
have and the things that the dr. sees. There are a lot of ladies that
I know of on this site that are dx with lupus, and have begun their
meds, and their bloods are still neg. Remember that stress=pain.
Relax, and be well and keep posting. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif
