Has anyone had a lung capacity test?
Do you know if they let you know right there and then how you do?
I have to go Thursday and I need a quick fix so I am hoping that they can tell me something right away. I cannot take this breathing/cough problem anymore.
Thanks !!

Hi Paula. I can't speak for every respitory lab, but the one I went to was very helpfull in explaining everything to me. They had me sit on a stool in a little booth, and put a tube thing in my mouth. They can then control what types of gasses are entering your lungs as you breath different ways. It printed out a little graph, and they explained the difference between COPD, asthma, bronchitis ect ect by the way the chart looked. But you know, everyone is different. Hopes yours goes well. Hi Paula
I think it sounds the same as the Lung Function Test here in Ireland. I had one done in April. I would imagine getting instant results will all depend on the person carrying out the tests. Technically they are supposed to send the results back to the doctor who ordered them but you can always ask for their opinion on the day and they might be able to give you an idea of how things are.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on

Hi Paula
I had a lung function test a couple of weeks ago, for the same problems your having. The fellow who did the testing did give me some information, but not all of it. The test took an hour. I was somewhat dizzy when it was over, but not for long. Good luck on Thursday and I hope you feel better soon.

Yep, they will give you the results right there. Usually a nurse will do the test and give the results to the dr to go over with you.

I had one many many years ago after exposure to asbestos. It sounds like it has changed alot since that time.
For me they had me go in a room and take a deep breath and hold it them exhale into a tube, they kept yelling for me to keep exhaling until they figured I had emptied all of the air from my lungs. They did this three times and told me to go in the other room that a doctor would be in to talk to me.
I asked how I did and they said " I said go in the other room and a doctor will be in"
Very pleasant people.
Then the doctor came in and started to yell and accuse me of facking the test and not even trying to do it right.
He explained that there is no way that I could have ever done so poor and be able to do my job.
I was diagnosed at birth with extreme breathing problems. I had surgery as a child that was supposed to help it and I'm told it helped some as at five years old my tonsils and adnoides were twice the size of a full grown man.
It may have helped but it did not fix the problem.
I was exhaling as best I could but it air does not come out easy for me it takes some time.
This was also when I was in the Mil. so the Doctors were always sure to be as kind and curtious as they could. If you had a Star on your shoulders which I did not have so to bad for me.

Hi everyone.
Thank you for all of your responses.
Last night I actually slept !
Maybe this Cingular pill is working (spelling?)
I'll let you all know how I do.

just to wish you good luck with your lung function test. It is painless but everything is frightening if you don't know what they are going to do. You will be fine.
