I have been on Aridia infusions for years now and suddenly my Rheum informs me that I am in danger of developing Osteonecrosis (dead jaw).

We chose this as the safest drug to help with the Osteoporosis. I declined Forteo, the possible side affect of bone cancer as there was NO knowledge available to say the bone growth it promoted would definitely stop when the injections stopped.

Now my dentist and I have the concern that with any in depth dental work, Osteonecrosis could rear its head. There is apparently nothing that we take that has not some horrible problem waiting in the wings.

Fosomax etc are all appearently included in this family. We have had to decide to take the risk and go with the infusions as I have such brittle bones and the idea of any more breaks, especially the hips is more of a concern:(

Anyone else with this problem?

hugs

 Hi Frilly6,

Sorry that no one has answered your question as yet. I too have osteoporosis from prednisone use. I use FosamaxD and was concerned about the article I saw on TV about the deterioration of the jaw from the use of these type of drugs. I really haven't had time to do much research on any of it and will not see my doc untill late August. When I do see him I will ask what his opinion is and what he has read concerning this problem. I also have TMJ problems and now am wondering if this may have been caused by the use of Fosamax. Maybe my answering and questioning will put this post to the forward and some of the others will be able to give you more information.

:) I really enjoyed chatting with you in the chatroom and hope you will come back soon. Sorry I couldn't spend more time talking to you but as you know, there were about three other new people there and I have a lot of problems talking to one person let alone three or four.

Take care Frilly6 and let us know how you are doing and if there is any change in your meds for osteo.

Wishing you better health TAB

Thank you for answering, seems you are the only one interested??

It has all been confirmed by my Dentist and my RTheum now. My Dentist says he wants me to have a clear 6 months of Aridia before he will do any root canal work or any extractions. There is plenty of Papers now published.
If a tooth needs huge work or extraction he will do emergency treatment only to keep me comfortable until the time is right.
We have decided as my bones are so fragile I have to continue the treatment as even now I have further fractures.
Sorry I have been missing I have had to go to hospital for treatment and not well enough to sit here. Hope you are better now.
I enjoyed being in Chat and will try again soon. Grateful to you for answering hope to meet you again soon''frilly
