Anyone else been driven crazy trying to claim benefit?? I put in a claim for incapacity/income support 2 months ago which has still not been resolved and I’m broke and fed up!! So far my claim has been to 3 different offices that are all practically impossible to contact on the phone unless you like living on hold and then eventually speaking to someone who seems to know nothing! I’m filling in form after form providing them with the info they need-half of which is either not applicable or a repeat of what I’ve already told them. It’s driving me mad and I just need to vent!!!!!!!!!!! Feel like giving up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you don't get any luck by pestering on the phone, get in touch with your local MP.
I had similar problems with benefits years ago, my application went to several different offices and had taken about 3 months. I went to a local surgery that my MP was holding and hey presto within 2 weeks I had a reply and the benefit backdated.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I know myself it can take at least 3 months to sort it out, when we applied for income for my 22 year old son who has OCD...they did back pay it, but its not 3 months later that you need it. Hope it is sorted for you soon.

Hiya Rachel
Sorry you are going thru this - i know how hard and stressful it can get when it comes to filling in forms for benefits - i feel that we have to fight for things that we are entitled to - its not your fault you are too ill to work so why we have to fill in forms that are as thick as the phone book is behond me.
DON'T give up on it - don't let them win.
Good luck :luck: and hang in there, it will be worth it in the end and like Sheila said - they do pay you back pay if you are awarded a benefit.
Take care  Jo

Hi,
When I applied for Incapacity Benefit they made an appointment to phone me back at a suitable time and asked all of the questions on the telephone that they would usually ask in the booklet they send you.
When the booklet arrived through the post, all I had to do was check that the answers I had given on the telephone were correct and then sign it and send it back to them.
At the most, I only waited for four weeks or so for the decision.
After around four months of getting Incapacity Benefit, I was sent to one of the Doctors who assess you for the Benefit.
I did not have any of the problems that others seem to have experienced and can only speak as I find.
All of the people dealing with my claim were not only caring but also very sensitive to my needs and made me feel like a real person.
I do feel sorry for all of you who had problems with their claims and am very grateful that I didn't have to suffer in that way.
SLE is bad enough to deal with without others making our lives more difficult!

Hi Jane,
Good luck with the application. I hope it goes well for you.
To be honest, the experience I had actually restored my faith in our so called benefits system.
Let me know how it goes for you.
