I'm just in the process of applying to uni ready for entry in 2007, except I got stuck when it came to writing the personal statement. I have written less than half what we are supposed to write and cannot think of anything more to say, whereas all my friends are having trouble cutting theirs down so it fits in the box. I always knew I can't do everything they do, but I've just notcied how much. They have 3/4 work experience placements, I have.........0 ; They have 6/7 outside school hobbies, I have.......1 ; They have 3/4 extra-curricular activities, I have none :worried: ........I feel like I'm kidding myself at the minute...do i really think i can get into university with my PS when everyone else's is full of stuff and mine barely gets to half and the only reason that is, is because I have waffled about the 1/2 things I have on there and why I want to do the course.
I am ill yet again...Infections after infections...fatigue....joint pain.....muscle pain, and I have so much to do....the above plus my school work! I need to scream! :faint:   :sigh:

Sorry, needed to moan

Hi Vikki,

Moan all you want - you have earned the right:(

And here is a hug from me (((((((((((((VIKKI))))))))))))))))

I think you could put in your personal statement how living with a chronic serious illness has taught you how to prioritise your activities and to fight to overome obsticles. You do this every day just to get through the day.

You have done fantastically well to get this far.

OK, you have had to sacrifice hobbies and work experience placements in order to get your core work done, but you have gotten it done. That demonstrates a lot of maturity and perseverance and sensible descision making.

All those things are good qualities for someone to succeed at university.

And you will never waste the time away sunbathing!!

It is a matter of phrasing what you think of as your weaknesses in a positive way, so that others see them as strenghts.

You can do it!

Take care,

Vikki, :hugbetter:

You are very hard on yourself and you shouldn't be. I understand that you always want to do the best you can but you need to realize you have limits. It's no big deal that others are able to do more than you, they are normal people. If you compared yourself to others that were in the same shoes as you are, I know you would be very pleased with yourself.

Things are not easy for you compared to normal people and you just keep trying harder to be like them. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for and unique in your own way. If you want to compare yourself with others, at least give yourself some credit for dealing with the things they don't have to.

Relax a little, things will work out just fine. :flowery:

Oh Vicki  :grouphug2: :there:

Cath has given you excellent advice! I couldnt agree more, focus on the positives that you have, living with a chronic illness and doing as well as you have makes you an excellent candidate for further study!

You show much more sticking power and fortitude than anyone else for that reason alone. And for that reason they will realise just how committed and enthusiastic you are despite the hurdles you have had to face. It's definitely a positive and they will see it that way if you phrase it right.

Hold your head high, we are proud of you and there's no reason in the world why you cant pursue your chosen career. You just have to be honest with them and show your enthusiasm and committment to seeing this through. Let that shine through in your statements.

love
Lily

Hi Vicki

Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time, can you ask any of your teachers at school/ college to help with your personal statement???

I agree with everyone else, that you are doing really well managing a long term condition like lupus and I think that is definately something that the University Admissions people would acknowledge and I'm sure that you will succeed in what you want to do,

I know that its really hard seeing your friends doing things that you would like to do if you were able, so don't worry you're entitled to moan!

what do you want to do at university? im at nottingham university at the moment, i hope you manage to finish your personal statement etc. as im sure you will have a great time when you get to university!

take care annaxxxx:) :) :)
