Hi my name is Angie and i am not sure what is going on with me. I am 36 yrs old and there is family history of Lupus. My grandfather had it.

I have not been diagnosed with anything yet but have been doing some reading about lupus

three weeks ago i went into the hospital for hysterectomy. and ended up in the ICU because of internal bleeding that was out of control. I had to recieve 8 pints of blood and 2 bags of frozen platelets cause they could not get the bleeding to stop. the dr said my muscles were just oozing and he has never seen this before. A hemotologist was in the OR and they gave me meds to help clot. Thank God they got it to stop

I am to see the specialist next week to give him family background and to start testing.

I am worried that i might have Lupus and scared to death that the bleeding might start again.

is this a symptom of Lupus???

thanks for listening

Welcome to the forum AngieMarie but what a terrible experience you've had.
I wouldn't say that bleeding is in itself a symptom of lupus although I guess some lupus related conditions like low platelets might cause dangerous bleeding.
It rather surprises me that such a condition wouldn't be picked up in the presurgery tests but I don't know anything about this or how unexpected such an event might be

I suggest you read through the articles on symptoms, diagnosis and tests on this site and on www.lupus.org (http://www.lupus.org), including the criteria lists pinned at the top of the Not Yet Diagnosed section, to see what you can relate to from your own experience, your health history.

A blood relative with lupus does increase the chances.
A few simple tests might quickly indicate lupus along with other symptoms. We'll help you all we can, so don't hesitate to ask any questions.

I wish you a speedy recovery from the hysterectomy and hope you'll have reasurance and answers very soon.

Bye for now
