hi there
um, are you really sure your doc said you can't overdose on them? I once asked my doctor what was the max dose I could take and still wake up in the morning if the pain was making me desperate, and he said 'Xmg' (above the usual max dose, but definitely not as much as you like). Sorry I don't feel comfortable sharing the amount as I am definitely not a doctor and our cases/ body size etc may be entirely different.
Codeine is a narcotic, just weaker than tramodol, so I am sure you CAN overdose on it if you are really keen.
Btw, if you take tyleno/ paracetamol with it it works much better as the paracetamol knocks out a different set of pain receptors. I found this out accidentally but my doctor said that it made sense and explained about the receptors (I was using it for severe neuropathic pain).
these days I use tramadol - not sure that there is much to pick between the two actually

I agree with you about Over Dosing that’s why I only took 15mg and then the same again 3 hours later.
He gave me a script for 60 x 30mg dose to keep me going untill my appt on the 21st, my daughter will be bringing them home with her today as she is a Dispensary Technician in a local Pharmacy, so hopefully she will keep me right :p
I will take note of what you said and remember to take them at the same times as my Diclofenac and Paracetamol, I sometimes forget that Paracetamol is an underrated drug, I think this is because its so readly available to us all
I don't like taking pain killer meds but it looks like I have no option now
I remember giving birth to my first child and I was offered pain relief I said NO and I was the same with my second ... so I think I have a high pain threshold but this pain with suspected lupus is some thing else

Hi
I have just been DXd with RA. The wait for this has been one of - NO - The most painful period of my life. I got the symptoms first week of September adn DX Monday. Up until Monday I have been survivng on panadeine forte - panadol/codeine. And one anti inflammmatory a day.
It has not taken the pain away completely, and sleep has been hard to come by - 2 hours and the pain wakes me up. Upperarms, shoulders, thighs, knees and shins and this horrid difficulty to move in bed.
The Pan/Cod sort of kept me sane, it took some of the pain away, but I was taking it more frequently, which worried me.
Rheumy started me on Predisnilone, which so far has made a change, and last 24 hours I have taken only 2 doses of Pan/cod.
It may help you the same, sort of a stop gap, but you can overdose. Some have mentioned Tramadol. My GP didtry me with that but I didn't like the spacey feeling I got with it.
Anyway I understand your pain, it kind of mirrors mine of the last few months.
Take care, and I hope the rheumy sorts you out soon.

Thanks Alcat I'm glad your feeling a little better :) and that you know what I'm talking about
Once in bed and when I'm in pain I'm like a stranded whale
My hubby has no idea hes annoying me I'm sure he thinks I'm making it all up
My kids are good and so is my future son-in-law I would be lost without them just now :)
I agree I don't want the spacey feeling :hehe: thats why I opted for Codeine Phosphate
7 days and counting I hope I get the answers I need :rotfl:
Hi Aileen,
I still take Panadeine Forte (Codeine/Paracetamol) intermittently until we sort out something with a bit better coverage and more suitable to the type of pain I am having at the moment. It does help dull things a little more, along with the anti-inflamm I already am on. So as an interim measure then it can be beneficial. I find they wear off quickly though, but used wisely they can at least help you rest a little more comfortably.
They were throwing them at me during diagnosis too even though I was already on anti-inflamms then. I do feel that the lupus specific meds helped more, but hey you do what you can do whilst waiting to sort it all out.
Good luck and I hope you get some relief. Beware of rebound headaches, this med seems to be a good one for those unfortunately :(

Hiya Aileen
I too have my first rheumy appt on the 21st :) i am currently taking Co-Codamol (total 60mg codiene and 1g paracetamol) for my pain. I can't take NSAID's due to my stomach problems and although it takes the edge of the pain away, it is only enough to allow me to get a small amount of sleep.
Like you i am hoping the rheumy will be able to help with the pain relief.
Good luck with your appointment - less than a week to go now :)
Take care, gently hugs
Tizz x
