Hi, I have a quesetion about palpitations. Today I seem to be having them pretty much non stop. It's a very strange feeling. This hasn't happened before and I can see no reason why it should be happening now. I'm not doing anything different, I'm not stressed and I'm not exerting myself.
Years ago I had palpitations when my thyroid went hyper on me but that has been over and done with for many many years. It feels somewhat the same tho but without the racing heart.
I'm on prednisone (but tapering off it) and plaquenil.
Any suggestions? Commments?
Thanks :-)

Hi! I have palpitations too. Like you, I also had them when I had a thyroid problem (Graves Disease) years ago. But now I get them when I am having a flare. I also have chest pain. It scares me, but all of the tests I've had done (EKG, echo stress and ultrasound of heart) come back normal. I've chalked it up to more lupus weirdness. Let me know if you get any answers!

I have coronary artery disease secondary to lupus, but on the odd occassion when I get palpatations, I can usually relate it to caffeine use (coffee, tea, etc.)
Having said that, prednisone at the upper doses has also contributed to a racing heart. Hmmmmmm...
Hope this helps! Pollyanna

As with any new symptom with your health, you most definately need to report it to you physician. There could be several different explanations from no big deal to quite serious. Regardless, let your physician know so that they can check everything out. Not to mention, new onset of heart palpatations are nothing to mess around with.

Hi there.
I agree with Nancy, you should get it checked out to be safe and find out why it is happening. If all checks out ok, then you don't need to worry about it.
Also as you probably know, caffeine and chocolate can make it a lot worse, so try to stay away from that.
My cardiologist said to cough or bear down like pushing a baby out and that can reverse the beat. However, I have tried it and it does not work so I don't know if it works for anyone else.
Wishing you well.

One day this happened to me, too. I had palpitations all day and it felt really strange. It was like every third heartbeat skipped. I was all freaked out and worried about it, but the next day when I woke up, my heartbeat was back to normal. I still wake up sometimes in the night with palpitations but they always go away. You should definitely mention it to your doctor, though.

the only time I get palps is when I am anemic, so I always trot off and get a FBC done.
sounds like you should ring your doctor - everyone gets occaisional palps, but if they just won't stop then it needs checking I would think, even just for your own peace of mind

ITs funny you should post this at this time. I was just in the er for palpitations on Saturday night. Turns out my potassium was low. They made me drink this potassium drink and they give me a list of foods with potassium in them. If you need the list, I would be happy to share!

Hi i went to doctors today and he said it's most likely the prednisone and the IV steriods i have been on and also the urine smell and foot numbness could be something to do with sugar in blood so go in morning after fasting for blood sugar levals. The bleeding under my toe nails is to do with lupus but not sure how he did say but i forgot but he said it will clear with the meds.
bye for now sue x
