I am on Prednisone, and last 2 days my lower back on each side is killing me (a little more left than right but both sides)...also my lower abdomen feel pressure...aches...I am urineating a little more but it is not a bladder infection...its more like I cant make myself finish going or get the urine stream started then it stops and i cant make it go again....can Prednisone cause kidney infection or pain?...I had kidney infections and this is what this feels like...except it is not starting with a bladder infection, I have no burning, or feel like I have tro urinate all the time thing...it is just the lower back pain and pressure lower abdomen...it is just the kidney pain....Prednisone I thought helped lupus nephritis...can it cause kidney damage?...it is uncomforable...my stomach feels so full like I ate already and I have not eaten...and when I do eat, I cant eat much, my stomach is full....?? Pressure? Hope somoone can answer me...thanks you..

Hi MichelleAnn, I don't know that prednisone can "cause" those things, except that prednisone can lower your ability to fight infection. Certainly with those symptoms I would be seeing a doctor. Not "all" of my kidney or bladder infections caused pain on urinating, so I don't think that determines an infection. I think you need to have that looked into.
Please do that if your symptoms persist today! I sure hope you feel better!

If it helps any, I was on a prednisone taper for about 10 days or so after IV steroids, and I had never had to pee so often in my life. I found this very worrisome, as I rarely have to pee at all most days. I also panicked to find particles in my urine and felt that the urine stream was not normal. It was sort of shooting out in all directions. I made an appt. with the gp at that point and she thought that maybe I was spilling sugar from the prednisone which could signal diabetes. She had bloodwork and urinalysis done, and everything was absolutely normal. I guess it is probably just an annoying side effect of the drug. Definately get it checked out, but try not to worry too much.

Hi. I'm having the same type of pain. Mine worsened after my pred was raised from 10mg to 30mg. I'm beginning to wonder if it's a problem with the pred. It is so bad that I was in the hospital for a couple of days. My dr. have ruled out kidneys and pretty much everything else. After reading your symptoms though I'm beginning to wonder if maybe we're having a bad reaction to the steroids. Will have to mention it to the rheumy. Hope you get to feeling better because I understand how painful and uncomfortable it is. Take good care!
