I’ve been diagnose with lupus since March this year but my symptoms are quite unusual that I just have a swollen right eye. My eye sight is not affected by the swelling. I have also started to develop a kind of butterfly rash, but again the rash is only on my right face. The left side of my face is perfectly OK with no rash or redness. I’ve been taking plaquneil for nearly 8 months, and isotane for 2 months. I have also just started taking azamun (Azathioprine), but so far, my eye is still very swollen. I’m getting very annoy with this as nothing same to work at all. Just wondering if anyone else has this same problem, and whether the redness and the swelling will ever go away.
Hi Michelle,
This sounds very troublesome :hugbetter:
I'd never heard of Azamum, I guess its the generic for Imuran (Azathioprine also). I dont think we have a generic where I live.
If you have only just started it, it will take up to 3 months to give full effect quite possibly? What dosage are you on?
Has an Opthamologist looked at your eye..........I think I'd want some further opinions from someone well versed in eye problems if you havent already seen someone?
love

Michelle,
There have been times when I get my butterfly rash on one side of my face only. I also get very swollen on that side, especially around my eye, but it will usually last only for a few days and then I'm left with just the red scaly stuff. When it happens I joke with everyone at work about being beaten up by flying monkeys in my sleep. (hehe) They all know I have SLE.
You may want to get it checked out if it something new for you. Good Luck and let us know what happens.

Hello Michelle
I see you mentioned the swollen eye in your first posts in March and that your specialists had never seen such a thing and don't know what's causing it. I'm sorry that it's still bothering you. It sounds very odd to me but it surely isn't your only symptom of lupus.
I just wonder if your right side is more exposed to the sun or indoor UV lighting, obvious as it sounds.
I should imagine that there is increased vascularity on that side so having redness on the cheek would make sense. I would see about getting another opinion.
Are you taking the isotretinoin for lupus skin? Just nosey ! :) No doubt you are already very careful about UV exposure but you need to take every possible precaution because it increases photosensitivity.
I hope the Imuran will help.
I'm sorry I have no bright ideas to offer.
Wishing you well !
Clare
