Hi everyone just curious I have heard of people getting diffuse shedding from SLE and I know discoid can cause patches - but im talking the diffuse part. Does anyone loose hair all over the head evenly and apparent loss?

Yep, that was one of my first symptoms = hair loss all over. With Lupus it can be in patches or distributed evenly throughout your scalp.

classic lupus hair loss is broken hair around the face - this is what most rheumies will call lupus hair, and if the official hair loss that goes along with lupus.

Having said that, a lot of lupies report diffuse hair loss when they flare, so who knows. Some medications can cause this too, so that is worth reviewing.

Also, it can be an age related thing that can start as early as the late 30s - a pre menopause thing (and menopause can come early with autoimmune disease, so this sort of pre menopause stuff can start earlier than expected).

check out your meds though - but, if you are on any of the meds that can cause this then there is not much you can do about it

Hi,

I agree with Raglets description of 'lupus hair' and the breaking off bit around the face. However it can come out in patches in us too, especially if there are scalp lesions.

Have they checked your thyroid function any of these docs you have seen?

Everyone's right the meds can certainly cause or intensify hair loss. When I'm in a flare or about to go in a flare my total amount of hair loss increases. It's freaked me out a few times. My eyelash loss can increase as well - causing missing spots - just not everytime. Again everyone's different but, we're all here to share & help.

Be gentle with your hair-get great haircuts that spotlight what you do have & make you feel good. :)

Hello!

Yep I get hair thinning all over and tufty broken hair at the top of my head - looks mad - good thing is don't have to have layers cut into my hair - got natural ones:lol: my advice would be to be really gentle with your hair espcially when it is wet - don't know about anyone else but mine breaks really easily... and don't worry about it - ignore it the best you can - i find as soon as I start worrying about it - it becomes a really big problem! Treat it kindly and eat well!
