Anytime you start new medications and have a problem like that you should immediately stop all meds until you reach your doctor. If he is having nose bleeds the medicine may be thinning his blood or causing another problem. Of course, I am not a dr, but I am a nurse and that is my opinion. You should be able to call his dr and ask what he would suggest, he may need to change the dosage of the medication or change the medication all together.
As far as the mood swings, how long has he been on the medication? I know anytime I take a new medication it takes about 2-4 weeks to level out. I sometimes get mood swings but they stop once I have taken the medicine for a little while, it might just be his body adjusting.
I hope this helps......

Hi he is taking Plaquenil 200mg 2 per day and Naprosyn 500 mg 2 per day and started them in August 2006.
The nosebleeds have just started, I cannot get to speak with the doctors until this evening, but will post the response.

Hi there, yes, get to his dr.'s, leave a message, let him know you are panicked, that this is new for your hby, and themeds are new also, and you need to know wether or not to take him to the hospital, or could he be seen by the dr. tomorrow? Let us know.Always report any change when there is a change in meds. Plaquinel took 8 months to fully work on me. see? everybodys different.
HI Showponies,
Were you able to contact the doctor? What did they suggest?
Would your husband like to join the site himself? I feel that is it is probably better that he talk for himself, how ever much I am sure your motives are wholly for his benifit.
Sometimes we get ulcers in the nose that are very prone to bleeding. This might be the problem - can he see or feel an ulcer? The nose ones are often painless.
As Michelle suggested, it is also sensible to get clotting function checked in case there is a problem here. Stopping the plaquenil though is something I would not do without checking with the Rheumatologist. Stopping it could well result in a flare of the lupus.
It sounds like things are generally not great at the moment. Is there any way you can contact the reumatologist for an appointment. The GP might be able to get something quicker than you can.
Let us know how you are doing,
