Hi everyone,:)

Have been having some very strange symptoms with my back for about a year now so thought i would question you guys.

It started with a low back ache which would last for a few weeks and would then suddenly disappear. This happened on three occassions all which had no apparent cause. The next time it started i noticed that everytime i had a period the muscles in my back would burn and feel incredibly weak from down in my bottom to my shoulder area. It was so bad that i couldn't lie or sit down in any way if my back touched a surface as it would feel like i was lying on a fire. :(

My back muscles would feel so weak that doing any activity was painful and they felt as if they would break or strain with any movement. I would feel them pulling even when walking slowly, especialy in my bum/lower back area. :worried:

The other strange symptom is that the bones in my spine would feel as if they were sticking out and would snap if i bent them to much ie sitting forward hunching over.

It would start about 5 days before my period arrived and would last until about a week after my period had ceased. Then my back would be left feeling sore. This wouldn't be to much of an issue except that my periods are a litte screwy at the moment and it's not unusual for them to last for a month...so you can see my problem!

Recently when i wake in the morning my spine cracks from down in my bum to the top of my neck - doesn't hurt but is a little unsettling!

For the last couple of days i have had really breath taking sharp stabbing aches in my back along either side of my spine - which have got me alittle concerned. I thought it was because i had forgotton my tablets one morning so took them as soon as i remembered. The aches eased a little but are back again!

Now i know this problem isn't life threatening or going to lay me up in bed for weeks on end but i'd like to know if any one else has experience of this or can shed some light on the matter?

Yes have been to the Doc but they looked bemusedly at me and didn't really know what to do. :umm:

Have a consultant appointment coming up soon.....

In all the literature and books that i have on lupus it never seems to mention the back/spine area ............unless it's fibro, osteoarthritis or spinal problems. I am pretty certain it's not fibro though.

Any way your thoughts are appreciated.

Sarah - this is a really weird suggestion and triggered only by the timing. But if your doctor dosn't see a problem with it; can you boost your Vitamin B6 (or Vitamin B's in general) intake the week before your menstral cycle. I had a doctor do this to me when I was in my 30s and I was surprised at the number of problems that cleared up. He explained to me that Vitamin B6 handles stress and is used up by our body by stress. I was having shooting pains in my forearms the week before I menustrated. He perscribed 500 mg of vitamin B6. The pharmacist said that you needed a few of the other B vitamins to help absorbtion so I took a megaB vitamin along with the B6 supplement. Anything you don't use you pee out so you don't overdose. All the pain went away along with a certain type of depression I'd been having that was also triggered by stress. I've since suggested this to a few other women, many have had amazing results from it. Since the vitamins don't remain in your system you can't overdose on it - so what can it hurt? But check with your doctors to make sure it doesn't conflict with any medication your on or strain your kidneys.
