liver probs

hi everyone,i am at the moment been suffering with severe itching pain under right rib,it feels like a sting pain with a dull ache,sometimes the pain is so bad i have to hold my side as it feels like something is going to pop out it last a few seconds to a minuite at the most but becoming more requent lately,my tummy does seem swollen i am not eating a great deal,for some reason i prefer sweet stuff,i am going for a scan in dec even though i believe bloodtest were ok(they have been elevated in the past)it feels uncomfortable,the itching has subsided a bit but comes back with revenge,i am not jaundice although my son thought at ttimes i looked a bit yellowish,but people have started to tell me i look well,i appear to have more colour in face where as i have always looked pale washed out,as anyone else had these probs before being dx with liver probs or am i worrying unecessary,as my blood seems to be ok,i would appreciate some info about this thankyou joanne8

I had liver problems in Feb this year for a few months. Pale stools and pain under my right rib and bloated tummy, I was also more tired than I am with the Lupus. A scan showed the liver was swollen due to the lupus, I also had abnormal liver blood results, a few months later it settled with upped steriods, but have had a mild case again. Try not to worry to much, I know its hard.

thanks sheila for your reply,i forgot to mention that i am severely constipated more than usual,does this run along side liver probs,i havnt noticed my faeces to pale in colour probably because i am not passing very frequently,i0 have had to use senokot to get it moving,i thought liver probs were associated with diarrhea,maybe not,thanks again sheila

Im sorry you are having this trouble at the moment and glad that you are having the scan next month. Did you mention the pale stools to the doctor and the constipation as well?

I was wondering if you might be having problems with your gallbladder? Gallstones are very, very painful and do need attention. They can also, in serious cases, lead to a blocking of the bile duct. I would watch that 'yellow' colour - especially keep an eye on the whites of your eyes. If they are going yellow or if your skin is appearing much yellower contact your doctor immediately as you can be building up toxins in your body. In fact, I think it might be an idea to call him anyway and tell him about the appearance of your skin.

Drink loads of water to help with the constipation okay?

Joan, when I had my Liver scan done, well they scan all the organs in that area, they also looked for kidney stones and gallbladder problems.

I just read that Plaquenil can cuase liver problems and up the enzymes. Do you take that medicine?...also, I was reading the Shingles info on this site, could it be the start of shingles?.....Hope you feel better soon Joanne

thanks everybody for your replies,i am not on plaqunil,i also had shingles 17yrs ago,this is a problem which has recently got a lot worse,in the past i have had similar pain it seems to be more ongoing constantly aching and stinging under the rib,i am beginning to feel very sore everywhere in the upper abdomen area,i have severe constipation too so this might be contributing to the pain,ive also noticed my tongue is red raw and sore i havnt burnt my mouth,this has been happening on/off for 3weeks now is this to do with the liver,also the itching has subsided after 3weeks of driving me insane this has also happened in the past then it comes back,it seems to go roud in a cycle these probs and they all come together at the same time,does this sound like liver probs.i would and do appreciate your replies thankyou joanne8

Joanne I been reading up on the Liver, have not found any tongue problems so far with it, but I had a sore tongue for ages, turned out it was due to B12 problems (lack off) Maybe this worth a mention next time you see your doctor, but don't worry.

hi sheila, thanks for the information,i will get doc to check,i know i was checked in june whwn the liver tests were raised,i think the b12 was fine i am not sure so i will ask,thanks again for al your replies

Well so much for saying my liver is now fine. I got a call from my G.P this morning. Liver tests done last week show inflammed liver ALT rasied, so this Thursday more bloods and have to go and have a liver scan. GRRRR

This be the second time this year, I had liver problems and I don't drink. :( Infact they just thought they got the liver sorted...they think I have Inflammed Liver due to the Lupus, never ending isn't it.
