I was at the doctor's today,I have shingles.and blood tests show moderate liver diease, he said this could be caused by the meds I take ,so it would be a false postive, have to wait till this weeks blood tests to see what that shows before any further action is taken, so hopefully this blood test will be okay, if not well then perhaps it is the med and I will just go off them for awhile. has anyone else had this problem with imuran ,
I was on methotrexate before May, but it was changed as it was felt it was not working enough to control lupus,
well that is all for today :) I will see what the rest of the week holds up

I tried Imuran twice and both times it caused elevations in my liver enzymes. Each time, I stopped the Imuran and after one week the liver enzymes were well on their way back to normal. The doc then prescribed mercaptopurine (also called 6-mp) instead and it has helped. I'm not well or in remission, but I have less pain, more energy, and have been able to get to a lower maintenance dose of prednisone.

Hope this helps!

Renee

Shingles are so painful:sad: Im really sorry you have to put up with this as well.

I havent been on Imuran so I cant answer your question about the liver results. I did have very raised liver enzymes from an NSAID and when I stopped the med, they returned to normal. I just wanted to stop by and send you hugs :hugbetter: :hugbetter:

Take care for now and fingers crossed that the rest of the week produces nothing else!

Luv n stuff

Hi Carol :hugbetter:

Shingles, what is it with lupies & shingles this week ((((((((Carol)))))))))))

I hope the liver test is just a blip on the radar and that you dont have to go off the Imuran :luck: occassionally liver tests come back whacky for no reason and the next one is ok, we can only hope thats the case here. If not, as Chris said they take you off the Imuran and it will return to normal. One day at time, see what happens with the test :)

Hubby had a call from the GP about his tests too, he's just increased his Methotrexate, so I am guessing its to do with that. We were at the Neurologists today and dd took the call. We will find out more tomorrow I guess.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and gentle hugs, shingles is no fun from what I've heard around here.

love
Lily

So I've sent you cyber hugs to help you on the mend. Take care!

Hello ((((((((( Carol)))))))))))

I am really sorry to hear this - what rotten bad luck.

Did they give you an antiviral like Acyclovir to try to avoid post herpetic pain.
I'm sorry about the liver too and hope it will turn out to be a one -off.

Get well soon!

Many Hugs

Clare

thank you for the responses. my rhueumy just called to say that although the bloods are up, he feels it is the imuran and it is still in the safe range and wants me to contunie with the imuran for now . we wait and see what it shows next month. as I get more benifet from the imuran. so that is one worry settled, not much to do but wait out then shingles and all will be well again, so just another lupie moment that will pass liek the the rest.
take care eveyrone

Glad to hear you went to the doctor and found out what your spots were. Was it the shingles that were causing the increased pain in your feet? I hope the shingles clear up soon. Hope your tests turn out ok next month.

Take care,
Lazylegs

:) Hi there, sorry that you are going through all this stuff, I know it must be hard on your nerves. But remember that stress=pain.
I was on methodextrate for a long time, but in the end I went off of it cuz I kept me sick to my stomach, Then he put me on imuran, which I am on now. He called here at 8:15 am ,course I was asleep, my hby took the call and gave the phone to me. The dr. asked me if I was bleeding anywhere inside? (wow ) I said no, why? he said my bloods came out very low on several things. He told me to go get another test done. I did in a week. He said that one was o-k. Then for now he said to take only half of my dose of imuran, and scheduled me for more blood tests. That's all of my experience that I can give you, oh, the imuran does not make me sick. I hope this , or something helps you.:wink2:
