hi all, i just joined this site today and wondered if anyone could give me some advice.

about 3 and a half years ago i was diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant

i had my first son 9 years ago had a few problems during pregnancy and he was born prematurely, nothing was said, then about 5 years later i fell pregnant again, but from 10 weeks nothing but trouble, i later miscarried at 19weeks, then i fell pregnant again this time the same problems happened again and i miscarried at 14 weeks, my next pregnancy i miscarried at 9 weeks, and thats when they did the tests and i was diagnosed.

luckily after trying for a 4th time and recieving low dose aspirin for the pregnancy i had my daughter Amber who is now 2 and terrible with it..lol.

now ive found out im pregnant again, im about 8 weeks and ive tried contacting my midwife but they wouldnt even put me through and now im worried as i need to get the aspirin before atleast 10 weeks.

is there a possibility because my daughter was born with no probs that im now not being treated as a high risk pregnancy.

any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks,
Loretta

Hi there, congrats on your pregnancy, hope everything goes well.

I really think that you should try and contact your midwife or doctor again. I'm not 100% sure but due to your history I would expect them to treat all your pregnancies as high risk.

I am currently 26 weeks pregnant (1st baby) and I never seem to be away from the specialists and thats with me having had no miscarrages or problems like that so far, they just want to keep a close eye on me. I have also been on baby asprin since I was trying to conceive.

Have the doctors explained why you have had recurrent miscarrages? Maybe you should ask them about heparin injections, which thin the blood and can help alot in some cases.

Hopefully your midwife or doctor will listen to you and soon. All the best, take care.

Kind Regards
Louise

Hi Loretta and welcome to the site.

You sound like you have your hands full with your two year old. It may not make you feel any better but my teenagers are still in their "two" stages. It doesn't end my friend. :rotfl:

I think that you would still be considered "high" risk pregnancy and agree that you should be calling that doc non stop. Be persistant and I hope that you can make contact.

I wish you the best of luck with your pregnancy and glad that you found the site.

Many friendly people here and great support.

Most definitely you are still to be considered high risk regardless of successfully having your daughter 2 years ago. Be a pest and get in soon, or just follow the advice you were given during the last pregnancy and start on baby aspirin now. That's what I did. I now have an almost 2 year old daughter, certainly acting 2 already! *lol* Take care, and I hope all goes well for you this time too.

H i Loretta,

Yes you can buy 75mg Aspirin over the counter . Although we should not encourage you to take medicines without consulting your GP or midwife.

without wanting to scare you though i really think that you need to be more pushy don't worry about bothering them ... that is they re job and no one will look out for you and your pregnancy more than you.

Keep ringing and don't stop until you have spoken to some one.

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy .

Love Lucy x

Hi Loretta,

Hi,

nice to meet you,

Congratulations on your pregnancy:) .

I'd like to agree with the others that you are right to push for an earlier appointment. Actually I'd ask your GP to refer you to the obstetricians at the hospital. You should be under the high risk team. You are quite right that you need treatment as soon as possible. By all means have some appointments with the midwife from time to time, but your first appointment should be with the obstetrician to discuss asprin therapy (and possibly heparin) and the plan for the pregnancy in general. They may well suggest more frequent scans in late pregnancy to check the baby's growth and placental blood flow.

Good luck with everything,

Let us know how you are getting on:rolleyes:

hi all, thanks again for your replies and support, ive not replied due to a few other problems, but im just letting u know that thanks to you, i did hound the doc, and the hospital and now im going to be seen by a specialist in whiston, up to now ive had no probs and im on the aspirin, so im, feeling much better about the whole thing, but hopefully the next time u hear from me ill be past the 12 week mark, which should be in the next wk or 2 if i got my dates right, but again cant thank you enough, i wasnt too sure, but now i am, and it was treated with the urgency i wasnt sure it needed, ive gotta say sites like this are so helpful when u dont know, when i was diagnosed i was so shattered about the losses i didnt really take in what i was told, and assumed it was just some fault i had, but now i know its not just me, and after reading alot of the posts on here, im VERY lucky as it is, but i will keep u all upto date and hopefully, therell be another arrival to add to your msg boards by june next yr....lol.....

many thanks, loretta
