Hi folks,
I have a question related to a previous thread. Is it safe for us Lupies to use a normal sauna?

I can't imagine why not - unless it is unsanitary, in which case it would not matter if you had lupus or not, just don't use it!
I personally find I do much better in a wet sauna (steam heat) as oppossed to a dry sauna. The steam seems so much more therapeutic to me, and I like to use arromatics with it when I have a cold.
It can cause fatigue, however, if you don't limit your time or don't keep hydrated.
I tried one of those new IR (infrared) saunas that have come out, and really liked it. We are thinking about getting one for the house. It is a more pleasant, soft heat, just yummy for achy joints and muscles.
I will be curious to see what others have to say.

It's the same sort of problems relating to heat as with the infra red except it's even stronger so you should only stay in a few minutes,
Finnish /steam sauna like any form of heat would be very bad for me
For infra red see previous thread :

I know for certain I can't do saunas I find they aggrievate my joints put my BP up and leave me with a whacking headache, I was told by physio to give it a go, I've tried about three times, different times of month and year, I love the thought of coming out all hot and the waft of steam that follows but I nearly passed out on the last one. take care good luck with them filled with envy here!:wink2:

Thanks for all the replies guys. The reason I'm asking is that I've booked a cabin as a surprise for Hubby & I for our anniversary in March. It has a Sauna which he will love but I suddenly got a bit concerned about whether it would be ok for me.
I think to be on the safe side & not to ruin our weekend I'll let him relax in it himself. I'll light the log fire instead
Thanks again.
Hugs,

I too have experienced trouble with the sauna and whirlpool. If the temp in the whirlpool is too warm (but normal for others) it ends up making my joints hurt more and burn when I get out and numb.
As for the sauna, I can't breathe in there maybe because of my asthma and I feel dizzy in there.
But the whirlpool is nice if just luke warm.
