Hi everyone:p Here's the weird question of the week:lol: It just happened for the second time now, so I was just wondering, do any of you experience really sudden itchiness in your fingers? I don't have a rash, but this has happened before, but last time it was my other thumb but in the exact same place, the base joint. I really can't tell if it is my skin that itches, it's just driving me crazy:eek: The itching does stop after a while, but not untill I've scratched my thumb almost raw....hmmmmmmm;)

PS. I might as well add another question while I'm at it:) My hip joints make an icky crunch sound everytime I take a step, and my sister could hear it from halfway across the room when it's quiet:worried: It kind of feels like my bones are grinding together, and it hurts to take a full step, so I have to shorten my steps when walking (this is usually worse when I'm "flaring"). I felt like such an old lady today when I was out shopping--everyone was walking past me, and I'm only 21! I know you all aren't doctors, but any idea of what could be making the noise? Thanks,
Linda:p

hi there

sorry I have no ideas about what is causing the itching, but I did find that when I had severe neuropathic pain using anti-inflamatory gel really helped my nuckles and joint area. I was never sure if it was the action or the anti-inflam or the coolness of the gel that did it.

Just wondering if this sort of gel could help your itch

cheers

Hi Linda,

Off the top of my head, I can think of a few things that may or may not be helpful. First off: itching is one of those common, fairly general and vague symptoms with dozens of possible causes. Some of the possible causes for localised itching include scabies, an allergic reaction (e.g. eczema & dermatitis), early stages of diffuse scleroderma, infection, medications and peripheral nerve damage. It might just be an allergy - hand itching is often related to contact allergies and is one of the pre-stages before a rash develops. I'm allergic to oranges and if I pick up an orange for just a second, my hands itch afterwards, but if I peel an orange, I get a rash. Whether the cause is innocuous or not, either way it's worthwhile to see your doctor who can determine the cause so that you can get the correct treatment rather than endure it needlessly.

As for the 'icky crunch' that your hip joints make, it sounds a little like crepitus. Crepitus is a crackling or grating sound accompanied by a sensation under the skin or around joints. It's usually caused in joints by two pieces of bone rubbing against each other (normally there's cushioning between bones that prevent this from happening). A good example of this is finger cracking, which so many people do as party tricks. Another cause is when gas or air gets trapped in soft tissue under the skin where there normally isn't any. If it hurts to take a full step, have it checked out. It's probably another piece in the puzzle of getting the correct diagnosis.

Best of luck on getting this sorted,
nano

Thanks for the advice, guys:p :p
Raglet, I'm not sure exactly what anti inflammatory gel looks like, but I think I have some aloe vera Gel with cooling lidocane in it, maybe I'll try that next time:hehe: (I'm on a student budget:eek: , so I have to try to 'make do' first hand) Thanks:p

Nano, I had no idea itching could mean so many things! I'll definitly add it to my long list of symptoms when I go to the doc:) I know I have to get my hips checked out too, they are getting really painful:sad: Thanks fot the advice:p

Hi I use a gel called felden and it is a clear gel that comes in tubes. I´ve forgotten what I used before I found that but I like felden because it doesn´t leave the skin feeling dirty.

About that sound. My jaw does that too. People often look at me strange when I´m eating  My dermy noticed the sound when he looked into my mouth and he seemed concerned. Asked some questions about it. Sometimes when I bite a banana or go to the dentist the jaw gets stuck and it hurts to close my mouth. The jaw is soar and sometimes stiff for some time afterwards.
