I'm an aunt of a 5 month old baby girl and I'm so scared that my precious niece may get lupus since her mom (my sis) is suffering from the disease.Are children born to lupus patients guaranteed to get the disease?

Hello

There's no point worrying about it. Lupus is not inherited. It is said that there is a 10% greater chance of developing it or a similar disease if a close blood relative has lupus or similar. Not even identical twins necessarily both develop lupus.
There's is a complex genetic predisposition that needs to be somehow triggered. So, people aren't even ' born with' lupus.
Try only to worry about the concerns of the time being - use that energy to some purpose.

Is the baby having any symptoms or problems?

If not, then I wouldn't worry either.

My daughter does not have lupus, nor to any of my 25 nieces and nephews. So it is not automatic that off spring will be affected, even though my dad and one of my sisters also have autoimmune conditions. It hasn't shown up in the next generation to date

Chances are she won't get lupus, and if she does she can be treated. Lupus is treatable, and I have a wonderful life despite lupus
