Hiya.. I am not diagnosed yet, but been very unwell last three months.. still hanging round being referred here there an every where.. !
I get flu like feelings, aching joints etc, but when this happens my face starts to burn.. I dont get a rash like you describe, but my cheeks go pink and feel hot to touch..
Anyone else like this, or is this a mild form of the rash that most of you talk about?

When I saw my rhuematologist in May 2006 (for the first time) she told me I had the rash. I thought she was crazy because I didn't see any rash on my face. She explained that the "butterfly rash" is not always a rash in the sense that it is itchy or that the skin is broken but that the cheeks are pink or red. I always thought my checks were naturally blushed but she said that was because of the lupus. I know this sounds strange but I don't get the "rash" at home. Only when I am in the office. At about 10 a.m. or so my cheeks will feel really hot and I'll go to the restroom to look in the mirror and I'll see that my cheeks are bright pink. It usually goes away before I leave for the day.

Hi can i ask is the redness feeling like your face is on fire and look like the rash i have on my arms (bottom pic)I had this also on my face but little embaressed to show that..I was told it was an allergy to something and it is the response to me having lupus and the autoimmune response. At first it was only when having a drink of any sort of alcohol and within 10 mins would be all over me and now it's coming into alot more foods and even throat sweats.I am having to watch what i eat if it comes out then it takes all night to go away but not itchy just burning.I had to go to local call in doctors friday night as this rash had come out along with tingeling and burning hands it was what we thinks the throat sweats brought it on.
Good luck hun and hope you get sorted soon

Hi Annie - I do get this and usually when I do I feel aweful and sometimes with fever when they are at their brightest.
Alice- do you have florescent lights at your office? This always happens to me and I do have those lights there. Also when in doctos office, they do have the protectors over them, but it doesn't help too much.
I would say you are having a reaction to the lights there.
Sue - I too have that when I drink just a few sips of whine or alcohol and get it on my neck and chest. Never really knew why it happened either.

Its like the pain of matches all over you scalp and face. Don't pick it my friends would say. I would tell them how about I hold a hot match to your head maybe ten and you would want to get it off too.. I am alergic to pain killers they make me swell up but I have to take em right now cause My chest pain is so bad. Inflamation around me heart. So this lupus is slowing my down.. Hate it!

Hi,
I get red flushed cheeks when I feel a bit feverish and achey. I've never had the rash but get flushed cheeks from time to time. I tend to ignore this, right or wrong, as it goes as quickly as it comes.

Thanks everyone for replying..
Its funny how you look back over the years etc at what you may have dismissed as being something or nothing, actually is/was something that links to what is happening to you now..
Usually when I get this achy flu like feeling, that is when my face feels like its hotting up.. goes slightly pink.. prob not as pink as the photo (thanks for sharing that by the way).. but looking back, in the job before last, I sat at pc all the time and there was fluerescent lights and usually around late lunch time, I would get the achy flu like feelings.. I remember I used to comment to my supervisor about me feeling hot and hot flushes etc.. she would comment on my red face..
I often look in mirror an do see pink ness in my cheeks.. but then I am always cautious incase I am looking for something that isnt really there if you know what I mean?
