Another weird one for me. Does anyone have a strange tingly almost pins and needles type feeling in the lower gum line and teeth?
It feels like my teeth might fall out at any second. It is really uncomfortable and I have no sensation of chewing or anything in that area or even when I touch the gums or teeth I cannot feel it. :(
It occurs in my 'symptom cluster' ( i am working to a dx of anything at this point) I have a tingly numb waxy left arm and hand right now and its not workign properly liek a carpal tunnel and reynauds cross but not really fitting either well.
It is really bothering me today and I thought I woudl get an opinion on whether i shoudl go to the dentist or just hold out til my neuro appt which is soon.
This is not a new symptom for me, i am have recently found this board and you are like wonderful encyclopedias!:) I fully appreciate all the info and nice-ness! :)

Hi Milly,
Do you have Sjogren's Syndrome? If so, all sorts of sensations in your mouth are possible (this may be true for Lupus and other autoimmunes too, but I'm not sure).

hi there
I have no ideas about the teeth gum thing, but I do think a thorough dental check is a good place to start. It is very likely that a doctor would ask if you have seen a dentist lately, so it would be good to rule in/rule out dental problems.
About the arm it's probably a good idea to ask your doctor about it. What sort of doctors are you seeing at the moment ?
cheers

Are you on any medications? I take fosomax for osteporosis. It puts a patient at an increased risk of developing osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ).

Thanks all for the replies:) I am heading to the neuro on the 14th, I had a dental check and mentioned it he said not to worry my teeth look fine.
I have just finished a 7 month course of isoniazid (INH) and the B vitamin that goes with it. ALso Flovent 110mcg and ALupent 100mcg.
I have no dx of anything i went on hiatus from the docs as a teen never got any answers. Went back for TB (not active) becuase of high risk area (live in korea)
also I have TMJ but hte dental devices they gave do not give me relief so I also gave up on the TMJ dentist/doc lol I have little faith in the docs anymroe but i have a litle girl now so goign to make sure i will be aroudn to see her grow up :)
going to neuro cause eye doc thinks i have a brain tumor, maybe that relevant to my teeth/gums/jaw?
thanks again

I have numbness ad tingling in my teeth and tongue and sometimes face and lips. It is worse on my left side that the right and when I'm tired I also get a slightly lopsided smile! Sometimes it is worse than others. No doctors I have spoken to have much of a clue as to what it is and my dentist doesn't know either. They just tell me it is related to my MCTD! They did give me a brain scan, which didn't show anything but one doctor said that most of these mild things don't show on a brain scan anyway. If you find anyone that can tell you what it is or suggest any treatment I'd be really interested!

Hi,
so glad i came across your thread. I have sle. Lately my teeth and jaw are hurting. I do have tmj.But it has acted up with tingling sensation in my arms and feet. My jaw has popped during this past week,my smile too is lopsided, and i have a lopsided tongue when asked to open my mouth. When i swallow it hurts on the right side of my throat. I am scheduled for a barium swallow test tomorrow morning.
My labs came out only to show that my white cell count is low. I don't know whats happening lately, but my regular physichian is acting like i have it all up in my head (crazy). I will see my rhuemy on the 17th. Maybe he can explain. Oh and also when i go to bed i have to keep getting up to urinate and its only a little. I have no idea what is going on any more.
just wanted to share. florie........

HI,
Just like Florie I'm glad I've seen this post! I have had tingling front teeth just at the bottom where I bite! I get ear ache at night at present and have long term back problems. I wondered whehter it was due to sinuses but I started again to have more signs with swollen hot/rash hands and pins and needles in hands. I also for the last 9 years find that I need to urinate 3-8 times after going to bed before I can finally drift off to sleep (only its not a little like florie!).
Bye for now!

I don't have the pins and needles thing, but I do have TMJ, but when I started on the different meds my teeth hurt like crazy, and my gums burn. Add those with the mouth sores and it is pretty yucky. Karly
I've been dx with sle and other companions since 1990. this is the first I've heard others have had crooked smiles. I thought it was just me and one side of my face being lazy! Hmmm. ;)
Any thoughts on why muscles might be weaker on one side?
Though I haven't been dx with TMJ -- I've had plenty of jaw pain, the dentist insists it's from grinding my teeth. Possible, since then I've noticed that I do clench alot -- who wouldn't with the pain we all carry!? :)

I have posted on another site asking about the teeth thing - no one had any replies. My teeth and jaw get very achy - I started out thinking I might have an absess in my tooth or something stuck in my tooth but it changed sides and teeth etc.. These days I am feeling much better as my meds are working but whenever I start to feel tired and start to feel my joints and all my stuff flares up I always feel it in my teeth first - it is a sickening type of feeling. Like you said - they are going to fall out - but I would not describe mine as a numbness. Wierd stuff. The first time I told my rhemy I felt ridiculous - "yeah, now my teeth hurt!" what next! It is good to know I am not alone with this although I don't wish it on anyone.

this is so wierd........for the past 3 weeks or so my teeth have been tingling too. its like a strange sensation of pins and needles but sometimes it feels....not painful but enough that i cannot ignore it.
i dont have the greatest teeth but this is ridiculous and only affect my front teeth, top and bottom.
i for one would like to know why?
