Wierd Bruise/swelling on Hip

I've had a strange swelling/bruise on my left hip bone for about 6 weeks now. It is about 3 inches long and 1-2 inches wide - at this point it feels like a hard lump under my skin. At first it was really red and painful to touch, then it got really dry, itcy and the skin got flakey, and now it is a brilliant purple bruise. It doesn't hurt now unless you press on it. It is vivid shades of purple - it looks like I have been beat with a stick.

I have no idea where this came from. If I had hit my hip this hard - I would have remembered it. The only time I've ever seen bruising like this was when I took a spectaular fall off my horse and landed on a pile of rail road ties. I've been concerned that I have mild vasculitis - but this looks much bigger than vasculitis - and it is well up on my hip - not on my leg.

Several weeks ago I had another vivid purple bruise on my side - about 3 inches below my bra line. This one was about 1 inch and was circle shaped. The one on my side didn't have the hard bump under it like the one on my hip does - but again, I know I would remember something hitting me hard enough to leave an ugly bruise like this - unless of course it is the aliens abducting me for medical experiments....:lol: :lol: :lol:

Does any one have any ideas on what this could be? I go see my GP in a week and I will show it to him - but wanted to get some ideas from you all to ask him about. I honestly have no idea what this is!

I got some bruises on my legs and especially my knee which I have no clue why. This happens off and on and I know some meds can make you bruise easily. Also something can be low in the bloods.....but my brain fog - I can't remember what, I am sure someone else will tell you.

I would just mention it to him anyway and see what he says and let me know what he says, interested to hear.

Where it is your hip though - I think you would know if you hit it.

Hi Janet,

Have you started the immunosuppresant recently ?. If so, then you should go and see the Doctor about this.
Some drugs to cause these sort of "bruise" like marks to appear and you need to have that seen to.
When I started with Imuran, I was asked to look out for this ...
Prednisone, also makes you bruise very quickly - eventhe most harmless bang turns into a huge purply / black bruise.
