This won't mean much except to UK fans of the "Vicar of Dibley" starring Dawn French. She put her whole self in her birthday:rotfl: chocolate fountain as much of herself as is physically possible.

Too funny

I guess I wasn't too late for the party after all.:)

Growing up we did a cheese fondue and for dessert a chocolate fondue. I loved those nights:hehe: .
So those of you who don't have a choc. fountain, you can fondue.

Brilliant suggestions! Cheers!

I was at a party where chillies were being dipped, and enjoyed, I didn't partake, it just seemed so wrong to me!

Quick assessment of the machine if anyone is interested......

Quite a gimmic really but great fun! (You could do just the same thing with a ban marie)
You do get some wasted chocolate:eek:
It is a absolute pain to clean!

Very good for parties, but wouldn't use it every day! (although I think my daugher would!

My daughter went to a party where they dipped popcorn and melon. She said the popocorn was good, the melon not so much (but then, she doesn't like melon when it's NOT covered in chocolate).

It sounds SO tempting to get one of those fountains (except for the clean-up part...)

funnily enough i was just having this conversation with a friend yesterday, as i am going to a friend's 18th birthday party tomorrow with a chocolate fountain! yay! all we could think of was marshmellows, fruit, biscuits and doughnuts, and I'm glad someone said meds, coz they reminded me to pack them lol! it's a slumber party too! Chocolate fountain all through the night!

:) A 'bain marie' is a double boiler, a pan within a pan, or an outer receptacle filled with water and an inner receptacle filled with hot water, with what's being cooked placed in the inner. It avoids direct heat on what's being cooked

It can be a bowl over a pan with hot water, no contact but the steam is keeping the bowl hot enough too cook the food gently. In baking you can stand the food in a roasting dish full of hot water in the oven

It's used for foods like eggs and chocolate that can't stand high direct heats and go funny if they are over heated, like chocolate goes hard. Typical egg based dishes might be real custards, scrambled egg, baked custards , and some sauces like hollandaise.

I haven't used the method for years partly because I don't make this sort of food any more but also my hobs can be very finely controlled so I can have things on for hours and they'll never overcook. Induction.

:)
