Any suggestions? :?

Between the lupus flaring and methotrexate; my mouth is full of sores, so I'm eating soft, not spicy, foods.

I thought maybe this might be a good topic for others beside me. I rarely cook anymore and have been eating pudding, jello, soups, applesauce, etc. and could really use some inspiration!

So, what's for supper???? :rotfl:

heck, I'd just take it as an excuse to eat ice cream .....

Breakfast: chocolate ice cream
Lunch: strawberry ice cream
Dinner: neopolotin ice cream

etc.

Sorry to make light of your plight, it does sound nasty! My daughter had facial surgery a few years back, I made her a lot of smoothies etc. Her surgeon told me to put heaping tablespoons of milk powder into everything as it boosted the protein. It's amazing where you can sneak milk protein into (gravies and sauces etc).

Baked veges and gravy sound wonderful - what time is dinner and I will be over (I'll bring the ice cream for afters)

feel better soon

When i had my wisdom teeth surgically removed years ago my mom made me spagetti.

She put it in a blender and served it with a straw..

Now i know that sounds nasty but if you close your eyes and pretend,,, it's not bad, plus you get nourishment.

I like taking angel food cake and soaking it in strawberry juice. You probably could use whatever juice you wanted. Strawberries are my favorite.:eat:

Take care,

Hi Polly, I have an idea for maybe helping your mouth. Try switching to a different toothpaste. My mouth has problems if I use ANYTHING except for Mentadent. Don't use the "whitening" kind of anything. I found the whitening idea from a different site and NOT using the whitening has really helped breakouts. And if I don't use Mentadent toothpaste my mouth "peels"... along with other problems. When I use this brand... I am soooo much better. Doctors and dentists have not been able to tell me why... I hope this idea helps you...

take good care and hugs,
Light

Lucy, Raglet and Lyn, your ideas are yummy-sounding! Sounds great, but being diabetic, I'll have to watch those sugar carbs...chocolate should be sugar-free and fat-free; dontcha think?

Sadie, I must admit that the mental picture I got wasn't very pretty! But it sure sounds like a logical way to get around the sore mouth. Thank you.

And Light, I appreciate your advice. I get the "mouth peel" too! How about that? But I get it when I use Colgate or Pepsodine. For years now, I've used Sensodine because of sensitive teeth and perhaps that's the ticket. I'll try.

Thank you all for giving me these good ideas. I'm particularly partial to Raglet's choices since they involve chocolate! :rotfl:

The sores have acutally gone down some and I think they flared up due to restarting of methotrexate after not taking it for a few weeks (hospital visit). So HOPEFULLY this will mark the end of them. However, I'll keep your ideas for the next bout!

Love and hugs to all, Pollyanna

Hi,
I can understand your pain. I have a few ideas that may be soothing.
Try biotene mouth wash. I rinse with it as much as i need to from dry mouth.
Try biotene tooth paste also, and use a soft bristle brush. (I love mentadent too) . Eat soft cold refreshing foods ,popsicles, frozen yogurts, sherbets, and also they have some nutritional drinks that you can chill and drink. In the pasta section get PASTINA, I use to feed it to my babies. You cook the pasta and add milk or butter to it or both. Its yummy!
DO NOT EAT fruits, tomato's ,anything citrus.(it will send you through the roof). no nuts, potato chips, or pretzels.
I hope i have given you some help. The biotene mouthwash is great, it is alcohol-free and kills germs and refreshes without burning.
I hope you feel better real soon.
Hugs, florie

Hy Pollyana,

Iīve suffered terrible mouth sores in the past. The thing that has helped me most is a thing normally used for babies with teething problems. Itīs called "Bonjela" in the UK.

I hope this can help you. It saved my life when I discovered it.

Big hug,

Luscinda

Thank you for your advice. We have something for babies that numbs the gums when they cut teeth. Perhaps that is what you have? Not sure about that one Luscinda, but thank you anyway. :)

I have tried the Biotene and found it to be very effective and I just bought some Taboule' (sp?) three days ago and LOVE it! The Mediteranean folks sure know how to eat! Yum!!!

I'm still off the methotrexate so I think my body is revolting. Errrr maybe I should say it is rebelling!

Take care all and watch that sun!

Pollyanna,
Where did you find the taboule in what section of grocery store? I suffer from the sore mouth far too often.
Thanks,
Becca

Hi Becca,

We have Costco and Sam's stores here; do you? Both of them carry it, but I found what I bought at Costco.

If you find a good recipe for it, you might want to consider making it yourself (if you are handy in the kitchen that is! ) because it does have lemon juice in it and if you are raw... that might sting.

Good luck finding it ... my blood sugar liked it too! I ate it for breakfast one morning because my readings were so good after eating it. :hehe:

Pollyanna,
We do have Costco and Sam's-my 2 favorite shopping places. Which section is it in? I am not familiar with it. It is a good thing if your bs levels remain ok while eating it.

That has got to be rough~it is already hard on our diets because IBS, Gerd, Ulcers in the mouth which limits what we eat then add on the fact of your being diabetic-I am sorry.

You have a great attitude and that is wonderful.

Happy Easter,
Becca

Hey Becca,

I found that container in the back, in the refrigerator section near the butcher's section. They had hummas (sp?) and various salsas and some other ethnic foods there.

Just a precaution, I would be very careful about eating it close to bedtime because of the ingredients if you have digestion issues like gerd. After all, it's raw onion, garlic, tomatoes, etc.! Just be careful.

It is so yummy!!!!!!! Thank you for the compliment Becca - it surely is easier to laugh than to cry!

A blessed lovely Easter back at you! :bunny:

Scrambled egg or omelette is what I eat when sick or unable to eat much. It's nutritious and easy to eat.
