HI everyone, hope u are all well!

Just have a quick question - I was recently told that a trace of protein was found in my urine and my blood pressure was slightly high.

Im really worried now about kidney failure. Does anyone know anything about what this could mean??

Thanks

Martha

Hi Martha :),

I just wanted to say that there are several reasons that could be behind having protein in your urine. I think that the treatments vary depending on how much protein is in the urine, and your doctor should be able to let you know what his suspicions are as far as what is causing it. If I am thinking correctly, if it is just a trace of protein then they may just want to keep an eye on it, but if it were in larger amounts then it would stand to reason that the treatment would be much different.

Best wishes,
Liz :)

Generally speaking, a trace as a one time deal is not much to worry about especially if you have not had kidney issues before. I'm sure your doctor will be sure to test your urine more frequently, and if the problem persists or worsens, then your treatment might change.

In the four years that I have been diagnosed with lupus, my rhuemie has told me several times that I have had protein in my urine. However, when he did further testing, he found that it was not a significant amt to warrant further testing. He has me do the urine test about once a month now to keep an eye on things. I feel like I'm in good hands and if there was some kidney problems, he could catch it early.
Many people who don't have lupus have protein in their urine. So, try not to worry too much about it
