HI... I was just wondering if someone could help me. I was outside today with my daycare children playing. I made sure to come in before noon when the sun is at its strongest, was covered up (probably not as much as I should have been) and wore sunblock. Shortly after coming inside I started experiencing a weird feeling under the skin in my arms, hands and fingers. It feels like someone is underneath my skin pricking me with needles. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if you have how long did it last and did you do anything that made it stop? Could it be related to sun exposure or due to either Plaquinel, Prednisone or Methotrexate? I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you so much!

Dottie

I went to the Zoo with the second graders at our school on
the 17th... had sunblock , long sleeve jacket and stayed to
shade as much as I could... I didn't get sunburn but I feel like
I did... burning and a prickly feeling all over but especially my
face arms... Where my clothe touch me more.. shoulders , hips
knees etc... I feel as if I am being sanded with fine sand paper
and have the pin prick feeling

So no help really except to say I have the same thing going on

Should add I have no visible rash... I have got the itchy
burning prickle before with no rash... and nothing seems
to help much... it has last from a few day up to 3 weeks or so...
cool showers or just wiping off face with cool rag when shower
isn't possible helps a bit

Hi Dottie I know the feeling, it's awful. I get it after about 15 mins in the sun, worse I feel it in my head as well. Just like pricking all over, no rash and nothing seems to help it. I got this before I was taking Plaq, Prednisone and Imuran, so I think it's part of being so sensitive to the sun. I wish I could give you some advise, but I just don't have any, hopefully someone else will come along with some. Hope you feel better soon.

Jude:)

Hi - you're not alone, I get it too. find that putting on Lanacane cream which has a local anaesthestic effect helps.

It is because of the sun.....mine started this weekend despite factor 50+ and keeping covered.

My skin where it is has a very faint blush as if I've rubbed a little hard.

Try to cream......you never know.

It sounds similar to a feeling I get on my face, a sort of burning, prickling with no rash. I have figured out it's when I've been sitting at the pc too long, because it's always down the side the monitor faces (I'm going to get a filter screen).

I am not on any meds, because I don't have a proper dx yet, so in my case definately a UV light reaction.

Hello Dottie
It might well be the sun and could be heat as much as anything else, causing inflammation of the nerve endings as the blood vessels expand to cool the body down.
It's also possible I surmise that we respond abnormally and poorley to heat because our autonomic nervous systems can be dysfunctional. That controls the automatic aspects of body function, heart beat, temperature control, breathing : all the things we dont need to think about doing.

Any source of heat is bad for me including getting 'het up' - from high emotions. Skin reddening, pricking, itching, even swelling.

There is a variety of helpful strategies. Lying down in a cool shady room and relaxing, after- sun preparations aveeno oatmeal based products, general itching soothers ( Sarna in the USA) , more purposeful ones like Lanacane even hemorrhoid ointments.

I advise patch testing those to make sure you aren't allergic to the anesthetising ingredients.

Another cause of many weird sensations is neuropathy but that's probably not the problem in this instance. It's worth thinking if you have any tingling or extreme skin sensitivity or running water feelings in other circumstances and it cant do any harm to get B12 levels tested

Count me in too.

I just had this yesterday after being in the sun and it almost felt like mosquitos biting or flees but nothing there.
